Tart and acidic, Beatnik Sour is everything your conventional beer isn't. Unfiltered and extra pale with a pure white crown, we kettle soured the wort with Lactobacillus, leaving a refreshing lactic tartness that puckers your palate.

12 ounce can, born on 06/29/2022, thanks to my buddy Denis for picking up this one on a trip to Iowa a while back! Served in a tulip, the beer pours a slightly hazy dark gold color with about in an inch or so off-white head that didn't stick around for too long. Not much lacing. The brew smells like wheat/grainy malt, green apple and lemony citrus. Taste pretty much follows the aroma, but with the addition of some lime, white grape and yogurty flavors. Nice and tart. Mouthfeel/body is light, it's coating, smooth and easy to drink with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this brew, would be a lot better on a hot day. Worth trying if you get the chance.

Frothy and lemon heavy with just the right level of acidity. Not the most complex sour but my favorite.

First let me start by saying this was my first time trying a sour. I quite enjoyed it, however with how different this is from a "normal beer, i would have to be in the mood for a fruitier drink to seek these out. I really enjoyed how much of a citrusy juice-like flavor there was, and would gladly pick up a six pack from time to time. The malty beer flavor is light but still comes through. I'm looking forward to trying some more sours when I get the chance. Definently an unexpectedly pleasant experience that i highly reccomend!

L - pours very thin white foam head which dissipates quickly. Light straw in color and mostly clear with slight cloudiness
S - has a mostly grain/wheat/bread like scent with a hint of sour sharpness
T - tart and sour up front but mellows in the middle and becomes well balanced with the wheat showing up.
F - seems a little higher in carbonation/fizz. Acidic and kind of chewy.
O - well balanced, clean, crisp, and tart. Overall seems very true to the style but also very good and unique in its own way.

Got in a trade with The-Adjunct-Hippie. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours moderately hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of sour/tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big sour/tart/tangy lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tart/sourness, and light spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/sour lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, light peppercorn/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/sourness balance, and no puckering flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/grainy/acidic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a delicious Berliner weisse. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, refreshing, and fairly crisp/clean to drink with the modestly acidic/drying finish; not overly lactic. Great well rounded Lacto/German yeast complexity, with a nice pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example.

Good color, slightly hazy with a thin ring of foam clinging on for a long while. Very clean nose, not too much to report there, sadly. Mostly cranberry. Taste is heavy on the cranberry and apple skin. Very dry and delicious, but without much fun funk. Goes down easy and leaves you wanting more.

The best part of this beer is the look. It's all downhill from there. Has a distinctly sour aroma. When I drank it, it was like concentrated lemon juice, just awful. No appeal what so ever. Drain pour.

Very sour smell and equally tart taste. Very true to style with a lip puckering finish and aftertaste. Unlike the Berlin version, no sweet syrup was offered to cut the bite. Simply put this is sour lovers beer.

Straw yellow liquid with a white foamy cap.

Smells tart - unflavored yoghurt, lemon zest.

Taste is moderately tart with some acidity. Middle notes of lemon, wheat. Some faint citric bitterness. Acidity lingers. Finish is dry with some lemon notes.

Approachable sour quenches the palate and one could drink 2-3 of these pretty easily.

this one didnt really move me much, kind of the classic one note lacto sour profile, tangy and tart but not insanely acidic, followed by a no bitterness dry hopped complexion, new school citra mosaic amarillo type stuff, appealing but now too familiar to be exciting, a trend follower not a trend setter, and one of the least impressive beers we had from the otherwise pretty awesome exile while we were in iowa. a nice fizzy feel to this, a little thin, exacerbated by the acid a bit, but pleasing in feel, summery and not too sour for multiple bottles. the key here though is to drink fast, this warms up a little sloppy and doesnt stay as refreshing as it starts, ice cold is best. this for me is a little one dimensional and not quite up to the quality standards these guys have demonstrated with most of the rest of their beers, but it serves the purpose if its a sour you crave. this would benefit from some hop bitterness, a little fruit of some kind, or perhaps even the introduction of some brett...
