Part of the Bass Royal Ales series. Water for the mash started by Queen Elizabeth II on July 3, 2002.
Tasted on March 13, 2010. Thanks to Traquairlover for sharing!
This poured a clear red cherry wood color with no head. It smelled like pineapple and chocolate and banana nut bread, with wild honey and clove and confectioners sugar. It tasted like banana nut bread and honey, with some syrup and confectioners sugar, as well as light cocoa powder and alcohol. It was slightly thick with no carbonation, and had a lasting sweet aftertaste. Overall this was a very interesting beer that was very different from the other Bass Royal ales. It still had nice complexity in the scent and taste, but not the same level of bold and delicate flavors. It was maybe just starting to develop the plastic taste from age (8 years old). But this was more in the realm of normal beer, whereas the other Bass Royal ales were in a league of their own. Of course, this was still very fun to try and great to sip.
