Pours a reddish orange body with a thick, crisp white head--classic ale body...nice misty lacing as glass drains... toffee, malt and some metallic pilsner hints.... hops are mellow if not subtle... carbonated, medium-bodied ale that settles the mouth more like a lager... quite drinkable, but somewhat slick... malty caramel tones with toffee--smooth, but neither buttery, nutty or hoppy--hmmmm... as a mass-produced ale, Bass holds its own and is still a pleasant choice, especially when considering its availability at most drinking establishments and even some house parties... consistent and familiar...

Ah, Bass pale ale. Have had it before but never reviewed it. I review this as I'm drinking it. Here goes:
A: One of the best things about the beer. Pours a clear red with a nice, robust head. Can easily see the other side of the glass. The head quickly dissipates, however, but it leaves a lot of lacing (which is surprising for a mass-produced beer).
S: OK, not good or bad but decent nonetheless. Presence of amber malt, minimal hops and English baker's yeast. Like a watered-down English pale ale. Still OK, though.
T: Not bad for what it is. Lightly-kilned amber malts impart a light earthy flavor. There are some hops but they're mild and don't really coat the palate. What's interesting it that you can detect the presence of English baker's yeast, which impart a very bready character on the beer.
M: OK. Bready character coats the palate well but the beer is somewhat light-bodied. Lots of carbonation, though, which is good.
O: A good (but very light and mild) English pale ale. Mild smell, flavors and mouthfeel but a very bready character.
