I used to like Bass, but I think maybe my palate has been ruined by stronger tasting beer.
This most recent tasting...I really didn't taste much, honestly. For a pale ale, even an English pale ale, I couldn't detect much hop flavor. Side-by-side, it tasted uncomfortably like my mother's MGD, with the added mineral-y flavors. Just not impressed.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Sept 2014. Acquired a while back from a supermarket. A classic English ale that I've been meaning to review - will it surpass the hype?
Poured into a tulip pint glass. A deep orange-amber hue with medium carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a minute or two before collapsing to a thin surface layer. Faint lacing. Aroma of light caramel malt with hints of grain, fruity ale yeast, subtle banana, a touch of grass/hay and stewed leaves. A bit dull.
Tastes of grainy malt with a mild finish. Notes of light caramel, cooked grain, husks, fruity ale yeast, estery hints, faint grass/hay and stewed leaves. A twinge of eathiness/cardboard in the background. Slightly sweet, followed by a delicate, leafy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with prickly carbonation and average body. Could be a shade more substantial. Somewhat astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of husky grain, caramel, stewed leaves and ale yeast.
Hmmm, so-so. Looks OKish, while the aroma and flavour are quite bland and insipid. Bit too harsh and lacking in hop undertones. Lacklustre body - wants beefing up. This has an underlying character that suggests drinkability, but the bottled form also has flaws. I suspect a good example on cask is a marked improvement, though I've never seen it round these parts. Oh well. No need to rush out and track it down.
