Our summer seasonal French-style farmhouse ale, Sand Spit is an effervescent, spicy and slightly tart beer brewed for those hot days around the harvest. Key ingredients: predominantly pilsner malt, with wheat and vienna malt, and noble Sterling and Tettenang hops.

Poured a hazy gold with a finger of off-white head. Mild aroma of wheat, lemon, and light spice.

Moderate carbonation and a light, slightly thin mouthfeel. Lots of wheat mixed with lemon, light clove, and some strong/odd soapy flavors on the finish (my drinking partner confirmed this).

Saisons are my favorite style but something seemed off here. Good potential, though...nice and light and could be quite refreshing.

I had this on-tap at Wedgwood Ale House in Seattle, WA.

Appearance: medium golden hue with no haze and a very light effervescence. Head is a finger of creamy white foam. Not bad.

Smell: a light, basic funk with a bit of sweetness and a light grassy character. Nothing too complex here, but a nice, classic saison aroma.

Taste: a lot like the aroma, but with a little bit of tartness thrown in. Again, it's a very classic flavor; not complex but balanced and enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a moderate carbonation and a nice creaminess. Not bad.

Overall: a very typical saison. There's nothing big or fancy here, nothing overly complex, just a lightly funky grassy saison that gets the job done.

A: Poured a clear golden yellowish color with a nice white cap which quickly fades. Head retention was a little lacking.

S: Big Earthiness with light pear, apple

T: Initial little bit of bitterness with some Earthiness, hay, red apples, ripe pears and white grapes with a little spice

M: Lighter to medium bodied, pretty refreshing, crisp and clean

O: This beer was pseudo good for the style but the lightness of it made it very wasy to sip down
