This "old brown" is a brewer flagship, and a typical beer style for the region in which it is produced. A blend of 'old' brown beer, already maturated for 6 months in oak barrels, and some 'young' brown beer. Each vessel is sampled separately and blended to taste, so as to obtain the perfect combination.
Each year, the taste slightly different though the main characteristics remain always the same: the aroma is dominated by green apple, red fruits and oak. The taste is refreshingly acidic and very thirst-quenching.

From a 375 ml bottle (cap is stamped February 1, 2023) into a tulip.
A-The seal on the bottle cap was noticeably weak and...I got a pretty flat beer out of it, so no head or lacing to speak of. The beer is cranberry in color and mostly clear, but dark enough to keep a lot of light out.
S-The smell is pretty sour with high levels of lemony acid, cranberries, and tart cherry being most dominant. I get a little bit of oaky funk, but this is pretty simple beer and trends toward the sweet and sour end of the style, rather than the malty/funky end.
T-The taste tracks the smell with high doses of acidity, tart cherries, and cranberries. There is a bit more happening on the palate than on the nose with some prune flavors peaking through beneath the tartness, but there is only the slightest hint of oak or vinous complexity.
M-The beer was pretty much flat, which caused a very watery feeling.
O-This beer was a disappointment. I'm not sure how much of the low score I can chalk up to the bad seal (the beer didn't taste overly oxidized, so I doubt the cap was completely bungled), but I have certainly had better Flanders red style beers than this one. Perhaps with a little carbonation, this beer would improve, but even with proper carbonation, I suspect this would be a relatively simple example of the style.

Aug. 2017: 375 ml green bottle, 2014 Edition, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 6.0%. Brown to dark amber colour, moderate off-white head. Pleasant vinous aroma, notes of red wine, oak and red wine vinegar. Sour flavour, notes of lemons, red wine vinegar and oak. Hardly any bitterness.

12.7oz bottle into a teku. 2013 Editie, so 8 years old.
Mixed look here, first pour clear dark red with a loose bubbly head. Second pour muddied the water so to speak, and killed the head.
Aroma is sour and a little funky which for some odd reason suggests methane to my non too talented nose.
On tasting, certainly sour enough. A little woody. Tart and dry, light dark fruit notes. The aforementioned methane is hanging around, but not interfering.
Mouth just about medium, finish fruity and drying.
Overall, not bad. Not bad at all. Grew on me. Would have again.

12.7oz bottle, 2013 version with a best by date in 2023
Tiny bit of head after a hard-ass pour. Chunks. Smell is light with some oak and dried fruit poking out. The taste is just, umph, frickin' great: plenty sour with a complex flavor that I could blubber on about for paragraphs. Steady oak and booze presence that doesn't detract, but adds. That is getting more and more rare to find
I loved this. If you find it and like the style, buy it

A 12.7 fl. oz. bottle with an expiry date of 19th December 2025. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.
Appearance: A clear amber orange copper colour with a nice two finger beige head, that had good retention and eventually settled to a thin replenishing cap, while leaving nice lacing.
Aroma: Sour, strawberry, balsamic vinegar, cherry, and light oak.
Taste: Tart, sour, balsamic vinegar, oak, with fruity notes of strawberry, cherry and blackberry.
Mouthfeel: Dry, medium to light bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall: The balsamic notes were strong, and along with wood notes, overpowered the berry fruitiness that I prefer.

Bottle, 2013 edition.
A dark red with a thin beige head with ok retention and no lacing. The nose is cooked cherry, honey, red wine vinegar, oak, brown sugar, a little cooked cereal. The classic old world oud bruin character, meaty and brooding and so different from the newer American interpretation of the style. The palate opens sour and lactic with a moderate acetic note. Vanilla, cooked cherries, caramelized brown sugar, a little savory, mild meat like note, like a fermented sausage. Lactic finish, this beer is medium light in body and softly carbonated. Solid.

More funky and fruity than normal, but wait, before I lose you, I am going to try to convince you why this worked for me. The dark cherry was accompanied by raspberry, orange, apple and I swear blueberry, giving the cherry more depth and brightness simultaneously. The malt is strong enough to draw these fruit in with the assist by a funky belgian yeast, almost like a golden yeast. However, there is a little vinegar on the finish that is pungent on the nose especially, so close verzet!
