Imbibed on tap at Original Gravity on 9/8/12.

Slightly cloudy copper with a clingy white head. First thing I get in aroma is walnut. Like a husky nut with good flavor. Hops are clearly apparent and grassy, expected of a fresh hop ale. I also get some tobacco, strangely enough, light though, like a camel cigarette. Malt is nutty and metallic (in a good way), I can tell there's some  crystal used in here. I also get some cheerios cereal. This gets pretty bitter, but I don't think it's with all west coast hops. It's not chinook or warrior bitter. Hangs around in the back of the mouth, but it not annoying in the back of the throat. Medium feel with a moderately dry finish.

This is a solid IPA. It's not too high in alcohol and it's very balanced. Could have another.

Opens with a big herbal, vegetal hop nose. Pours hazy gold under a 3” off white foam cap that slowly descends to ¼” but is easily roused and leaves good lace. The hops hit the palate with very yummy vegetable herbal flavors supported by melon and malt. The attack starts with sweet biscuit under the hops leading to a citrus, pine finish with a trace of black pepper.

22oz bottle into tulip. 2014 bottle release.

A: Pours a clear golden amber with a very dense, greasy, and oil off-white head that took forever to collapse into a thick and dense film that left patches of sticky lace down the glass.
S: Hop forward nose with juicy notes of citrus nectar, berries, and slight pine sap. I get a hint of a bready malty nuttiness as well.
T: Mouth isn’t as juicy as the nose suggested. Hops are oily and full of hop resin and pine sap, but the finish is fairly citrusy and leafy. The malt is more prominent and is boozy and flavored like toasted dark bread. The finish is a bit rough around the edges, with a solventy booziness that doesn’t mix well with the bitter pine sap.
M: Medium-full body, heavy, thick, and greasy mouthfeel with low and oily carbonation.
O: I been so impressed with their year round beers, but all the hoppy ones I’ve had have been disappointing. This wasn’t bad, but it’s just a heavy, boozy, malty ipa. It is pretty crushingly hoppy, it just needs a bit more polishing to smooth out the edges.
