Notes/Commercial Description:
A collaboration with Chez Panisse Cafe for its 33rd anniversary. Farmhouse Ale celebrates the sustainable farm. Infused with organic anise hyssop, lemon verbena blossom, and Meyer lemon leaf from Cannard Farm, this delicate, saison ale explodes with spring flavors. A peppery, citrus finish lingers in invitation to slow down. Pair with: field greens, goat cheese, a porch swing. Drink up: to start a meal, after working in the yard.

375ml bottle into tulip, purchased at Bottle Barn.

A: Pours a clear bright golden color with a finger of soft looking off-white head that faded into a thick film that lasted nearly the whole beer through. Wispy strings of lacework were left down the glass.
S: Herbal, grassy, lemony, faintly citrusy, and spicy all-around. Green herbal lemon mix well with peppery farmhouse yeast.
T: Follows the nose with what is apparently anise hyssop, lemon verbena and Meyer lemon leaf. All I know is these flavors blend expertly well with earthy crackery yeast and peppery spice. Earthy herbal finish with a touch of citrus peel and lightly bitter plant stems in the aftertaste. Faint banana.
M: Crisp clean and light with smooth carbonation and a medium-light body. Refreshing.
O: Very refreshing. The label says this tastes like spring. Definitely a suiting simile.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours a clear gold with a foamy white head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, yeast, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with yeast and spice flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with some solid aromas and flavors.

12oz short brown bottle purchased from Ledger's Liquors in Berkeley, CA. Shared with Rich in Sydney.

Pours a bright, clear yellow colour, with a full, persistent and rather rich head of white that stays around for quite some time. Lacing forms in large dots, quite persistently. Body is pleasingly fluid, but holds fine carbonation well. Looks good.

Nose is bright with crisp fruit of peaches and pears, and a slightly woody vinous character like oaky chardonnay. Some of the earthy, saison tones come through as well giving a slightly organic aroma with more wood and smooth sweet herbs. It's all quite rounded and well-integrated, making it seem very refined. Good stuff.

Taste is also quite refined and well integrated. Here, however, it makes the flavours seem slightly flatter: the fragrant, earthier notes are gone, leaving it smooth and drinkable, but leaving much less complexity. Some crispness on the back helps the palate from sip to sip: cleaning out the back from some of the rounder sweeter notes on the front.

Feel is good. Clean and light, but with a slight crispness towards the back.

Overall, this is a very well made saison with some classic characters wrapped into a very neat and coherent package. It perhaps doesn't have some of the most fragrant, flavoursome or intense characters that you can get from the style, but it's very solidly done—one of the better "classic" saisons I've had from the US.

B

375ml into a tulip. Pours an immaculate light clean copper, minor head minor lacing, a gorgeous body at the least.

Singed human hair as if from my forearm is always a peculiar smell, this has that with nothing that can dominate and keep it down.

Taste is not so much flavors but vague sensations plus pepper. Well attenuated, crisp and dry, minimal herbal bitter in the finish. Aftertaste does not linger except for a ghost. Thin bodied mouthfeel.
cheers

Served from bottle into Duvel glass.

Yellow color; head is moderate but quickly fades.

Smells like corny malt, banana, coriander.

Taste is much like the smell, but fairly light and refreshing.

An enjoyable, smooth, dry beer. Great session farmhouse ale.

Pours a crystal clear yellow ale with a crest white strips foamy colored head. Big time white. Decent lacing.

The aroma has the whiffs of clove, floral, banana, bubblegum, grass and peach. Pleasant enough aroma but nothing earth-shattering.

I dig the taste. Bubbly smack at the front of the sip and the lemon zest and lime flavors kick in subtly at first but then ramp up in flavor. Pepper-like taste also. Lingering subdued lemon, bitter aftertaste. Albeit nice.

Lotsa carbonation.

Overall this was a nice foray into the Farmhouse Ale category for this up and coming brewery. Nothing bad about this experience, but nothing to write mom about either. Bottle size was right for the session. Refreshing.

Pours a bright coppery color. Quite clear. Sort of a shame to see that it's filtered and not bottle conditioned. Medium white head. Moderate lacing. Just ok retention. The head has faded to a scattering of bubbles after five minutes or so. The aroma has a very clean saison character. Too clean for my taste, but it's still nice and wouldn't take away from paired food, which is probably the point. Pleasantly subtle citrus flavors and a peppery spice note bring some complexity. Floral, grassy hops in the background. The taste is similar, though I'm picking up on the anise hyssop. Still, the flowers and lemon leaf never come anywhere near overwhelming and are very interesting and welcome choices for the beer. Moderately dry. Some nice fresh grain flavor. A little bit of earth and a light touch of bitterness in the finish. A bit more peppercorn spice. The mouthfeel is lightly effervescent and refreshing. Good palate cleanser. Very nice beer. I'm sure it would go quite well with food. That said, it's a tad boring on its own despite being well made and using some interesting and tasty ingredients. In my opinion, it's just too neat and clean for a farmhouse ale.
