Appearance: Pours a clear copper color with a thin film; spots of lacing along with a few streaks
Smell: Caramel, butterscotch and piney hops with fusel alcohol
Taste: Caramel and butterscotch fusing with piney hop flavors; a lot of fusel alcohol in the finish
Mouthfeel: Full bodied with moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet
Overall: Not getting the Bourbon here and the fusel flavors are rather unpleasant; not sure what went wrong as I have been impressed with this breweries other offerings - this is the Fifth anniversary canned version with an 11.9% ABV
Thanks, cdubnbird, for the opportunity

Hazed orange-leather with a large light tan head that lasts a good while and leaves leggy lacing. Candied orange, earthy hops, vanilla and some solvent-like alcohol in the nose. Bourbon-forward taste with loads of vanilla and a touch of coconut, followed by lots of sweet orange, some cough syrup and a touch of earthy hops that do add a bit of bitterness but can’t compete with the intense sweetness of this one. Light to medium bodied with just enough carbonation. Definitely an American-style barleywine, but the intense orange sweetness and vanilla-forward bourbon are the stand out characteristics here. It’s okay.

Had on tap. This was a miss for me in the taste, too much whiskey and ash tray upfront, washed over rest of flavors. Smell has ok barley and brown sugar, but wood is so strong it almost takes on a pine smell. Overly robust, but no flavor to compliment that feel. Just left me underwhelmed.

Thanks to bl00 for this one from NBS BIF #007. This is the 4th Anniversary version. Can # 633/1000. 16oz can poured into 10oz fluted tulip. Poured a clean, clear medium leather brown with just a thin cap of of off-white head that had low retention and light lacing.
A light whiskey scent was at the front of the nose, with the the malts and grain just underneath.
Very similar on the tongue, the whiskey is prominent, but the base brew holds up nicely.
The body is a bit lighter than typical, but there is stead carbonation that helps it across the tongue.
Drinkability was very good, the beer was smooth and even throughout. Overall, a very nice take on the style. Highly recommended if you get the chance.

Poured into a pint glass from a bomber bottle. Pours orange red with a tiny white head. Smells of fruity berries, slight banana and citrus, but little hints of whiskey. Tastes of grainy fruit, with the banana dominating, and caramel with very slight whiskey. Beer is full bodied, lightly carbonated, and a tad syrupy. Overall, a very good beer.
