341ml bottle poured into tulip 18/5/16

A dark cola, you can almost see through it but not quite, some noise from the fast falling finger of foam that leaves no lace

S spice and smoke hit me first, anise, root beer, molasses, rum and coke, faint char, maybe some sweet cold coffee and leafy hops

T chocolate syrup, still has a spiced rum and coke leaning towards a sweet milky paralyzer, strange I get more mixed bar drinks then beer in this one

M fairly thin for the color, fizzes and flattens out, slick with a back forest cake finish

O interesting stuff but just stops short, it kept changing flavors on me, different but it couldn't follow through on the nose that I was enjoying

I'm not really sure what the story is behind this one, a light smoked malt aged in spiced rum barrels? I'm sure google can figure it out for me if I ever get the energy

6.5% abv, N/A ibu, 341ml bottle.
A - murky dark brown with almost no head.
S - chai, spice, coffee bean, chocolate, sweetness (rum), pumkin, smoky.
T - mild carbonation, smooth, light - medium body. not as sweet as the aroma suggests. smoky, roasty, lasting is short, left nothing much.
O - i like the aroma here, more rich n complex than the taste. but still top of the pack.

341ml bottle poured into tulip.

Pours a nearly black cola brown with one skinny finger of loose khaki head that leaves soapy blobs of lace as it recedes.

Smells of baker's chocolate, toasted nuts, soft rum, sweet black licorice and mild green hops.

Tastes of toasted brown sugar, mild burnt bread, weak coffee and more faint hops. Not as good as the smell.

Feels almost watery. Medium-light bodied with fizzy carbonation. Finishes dry.

Verdict: Not impressive, but not bad.

This was surprisingly good on tap (4.15?), but the bottle is fairly mediocre.

Fizzy head, no retention.

Definitely a little rum and treacle in the aroma, but nothing like the keg.

A little less roasted character in the flavour as well.

This has definitely mellowed a bit, which may be more approachable to some... But I really liked the assertive keg.

Gotta have a friend in Jesus. Or a rum barrel. I extracted this one with great anticipation, since I do like my FBC beers. This looks and acts more like a porter, or a rum and coke, whatever your preference. The nose is roasty, with a bit of licorice wafting upward. In the flavour profile, there is only the faintest rum presence - a bit of a letdown for this rum-lovin' cowboy. Overall, it's a pleasant beer, but it doesn't quite meet my expectations.

Pours a dark reddish brown colour with almost zero head. It almost looks like a soda pop. The nose leads with dark roasted malts, dark sugars, dark dry fruits and slight wood and rum on the edges. There is a slight coffee flavour that goes along with a rum barrel woodiness. At the end of the flavour there is a earthy hop bitterness that lingers for quite a while. The mouthfeel us bit of a paradox. There is an active small bubble carbonation but the feeling in the mouth is kind of watery. A pretty good start to the pack but slightly dissapointing.

341ml bottle, part of the Brews Brothers Vol. Two mixed pack, and a collaboration with Fernie Brewing. I am absolutely more familiar with the 80's glam version of the titular song, as performed by the oh so campy Doctor and the Medics. Brewed with oak spirals aged in 7-year old Havana Club rum.

This beer pours a clear, very dark brown colour, with two fingers of puffy, finely foamy, and mildly fizzy tan head, which leaves a band of bleeding paint swath lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of roasted, and slightly meaty caramel malt, faintly rum-like dark sugar syrup, a bit of free-agent char, subtle black licorice, a touch of sour milk, and plain earthy, leafy, and weedy hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, well toasted brown bread, some fading brown sugar sweetness, faint dry chocolate, a stale anise spiciness, kind of edgy woody rum notes, and more unheralded leafy, floral, and musty hoppiness.

The bubbles are fairly active in their probing and playful frothiness, the body a solid medium weight, and more or less smooth, perhaps just a bit of that homebrew rum woodiness taking things down a peg or two here. It finishes off-dry, the roasted caramel malt holding fast, faster than the fading brown sugar and rummy essences.

Overall, a kind of plain and not particularly engaging boozy and oaked-up stout - it all seems sort of forced and far from blended. Ok to drink, I suppose, but then again, I never did like the ol' rum, no matter what form it comes in - and no, I've never had a 'gotta have a friend in Jesus' moment with it, either.
