A: Pours an opaque but clear extremely dark reddish brown (almost black) in color with slightly more than moderate amounts of gentle visible carbonation along the edges of the glass (along the surface) and some crimson red + cola brown highlights. The beer has a quarter finger tall fizzy foamy light tan head that reduces quickly to a small patch of thin film and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of dark chocolate, fudge, roasted malts, slightly lighter aromas of pumpkin pie spices (ginger, nutmeg, and clove), and just a hint of pumpkin sweetness.

T: Upfront there is a strong flavor of fudge and dark malts with a moderate flavor of roasted malts. Moderate flavors of dark bittersweet chocolate and light notes of freshly ground coffee go well with the moderate flavors of pumpkin pie spices (ginger, nutmeg, and clove in order of strength) and roasted pumpkin. Light amounts of bitterness in the finish which lingers for a while.

M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth and slightly slick.

O: I really enjoyed this rich chocolatey pumpkin porter - a nice twist on the traditional pumpkin ale and chocolate porter/stout. Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol. Delicious.

Bottle into a teku glass.

Dark black pour, no head. Smell has something wrong with it..extremely off smell of burnt rubber. Not excited to sip this one by any means. Taste isnt quite as bad, I get no chocolate at all but maybe a tad of pumpkin. The blend definitely doesnt work and though its drinkable it's still not anything i would ever seek out. Body is mild and carbonation is very low.

Overall avoid this. Just not a good beer.

Parallel 49 "Lost Souls" @ 6.5% , a Chocolate/Pumpkin porter served from a 650 ml bottle purchased for $6.50

A-pours a very dark brown , with some orange hues along the glass edge , nice size tan head that slowly dissapates leaving some fine lacing along the pint

S-more chocolate than pumpkin , not much in spices , mild smelling

T-more chocolate than pumpkin , as a chocolate porter smooth & creamy tasting , picture 'Terrys Chocolate Orange Bar' , this version is Pumpkin flavor

MF-ok/good carbonation , bit thin , watery , for a weak medium body

Ov-ok beer , not a great beer , still enjoyable for the fall season

650ml bottle poured into tulip 16/10/13

A black enough with a edge that goes halfway to the other side under the foam, three fingers of mocha foam quickly falls to a thick film leaving no lace, looks pretty basic

S strong on the ginger, not much spice or pumpkin but there's some in there, lots of root beer and chocolate

T a little cold coffee and slightly more dark roast then the nose, root beer's still strong, spices are more noticeable then the nose but I can't place them, and heaps of ginger with faint pumpkin

M not quite the body I was expecting for the color, its somewhat light for a dark stout, foams up just a little, slick on the palate

O decent beer but perhaps a little more ginger then desired and pumpkin only plays a small part, has a fair bit of root beer going on almost overwhelming the dark roast

I liked it but I didn't love it, worth a try but not worth going out of your way for it, not your typical pumpkin beer but its a strange mix of flavors nonetheless

650ml
A: dark brown
S: vey muddled: earthy, vegetal, caramel malt, cola
T: I don't get any pumpkin character at all and the maltiness is sharp and not clearly focused. Very little richness and not well balanced. Simple, aggressive, dark, straightforward. Finish is not very pleasant.
M: medium full bodied.
O: not a very likeable beer except maybe with big tasting food.

650ml bottle.

Appearance - Pours a dark chocolate brown with a finger width of frothy beige head.

Smell - Roasted malts, cocoa, coffee, light aroma of pumpkin.

Taste - Lots of warm roasted malt, cocoa and coffee flavours. The pumpkin is there, but more on the lighter side of things.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall - I like the idea of combining chocolate and pumpkin into a porter, but I'm not sure if the execution is fully there on this one. Great roasted flavours, but it seems to overpower the pumpkin.

650ml bottle. A nice twist on the typical seasonal offering of the moment, a bigger brother of sorts to Schadenfreude, I would imagine.

This beer pours a dark, almost black, cola highlight riddled colour, with two fingers of puffy, tightly foamy, and wanly bubbly tan head, which leaves nothing more than a bit of remote islet lace around the glass as it quickly dissolves.

It smells quite pungently of roasted dark chocolate, vegetal gourd, toasted, slightly sour caramel malt, muddled gingerbread spices - clove, ginger, and nutmeg - dry coffee grounds, a bit of brown sugar, and very soft earthy, weedy hops. The taste again leads with now semi-sweet cocoa notes, middling caramel malt, a softly sour lactic astringency, ethereal spiced pumpkin latte - coffee, mildly fleshy pumpkin, and overly blended seasonal spices - a slight metallic stoniness, and more understated earthy, leafy hops.

The bubbles are restrained to the point of nothingness, the body a hearty medium-heavy weight, generally smooth, and even a little creamy for good measure. It finishes on the sweet side, the chocolate, milkiness, and spiced pumpkin conjuring a certain après-Hallowe'en experience through and through.

If you didn't tell me that this was pumpkin-adjacent, I would have just told you that this is a rather pleasant hybrid of an American and London Porter, all chocolate, malt, and subtly sour lactation. But ya did, and the spiced pumpkin is indeed there, as relevant to the goings-on come November 1st as the rotting gourd on your front step is, at least compared to any newly-acquired candy bars, in this now strung-out metaphor.

poured from a 650ml bottle bought this week at the BCLS for $5 + deposit.

A: Black and impenetrable to light, with maybe half a centimetre of head that dissipated fairly quickly.
S: dark, coffee, chocolate, caramel smell I'd expect from porter. I'm not sure if I can actually smell pumpkin, but it smells delicious.
T: This is LOVELY. Dark chocolate and roasted malts. I'm not sure whether I actually taste roasted pumpkin or whether I'm trying so hard to because it's supposed to be there that I'm starting to imagine it, but either way, this is a nice beer.
F: Smooth, carbonation present but not high.

A: Great looking beer, not the biggest head, but a beautifull dark color

s: Straight away the porter elements come in with a coffee/choclatey almost sour aroma.

T: Taste is again roasty choclolate, coffee, not getting the pumpkin, but I honestly don't care

m: mouthfeel is medium, with a little slickness that I expect of the style

o: overall, great porter. I'm not getting the pumpkin, but still really enjoyable. definitely a fuller/bigger beer than alot of porters. awesome label.
