Pour is a heavily hazed amber with a cream head and lots of bubbles. Nose is extremely hoppy, a hint sweet, resinous and sticky hops, caramel malts, notes of grapefruit. Taste is a touch empty but less resinous and sweet. A little cleaner, some balanced grain notes, moderately assertive hops, citrus and grapefruit through the finish. Body is light with a strong carbonation and prickly feel.

Appearance: An iridescent apricot and caramel color. A slightly off-white head that is crunchy and voluminous with sticky lacing.

Nose: Sweet plums and kiwi on top with subtle raisin and green pine.

Taste: Crispy dry crackers and a crisp mouthfeel and a watery finish. Slightly syrupy at the finish.

Enjoyed a bottle from a Parallel 49 mixed pack, probably the most hops forward beer in said pack (but see below). A pleasing honey amber color, fairly cloudy and with an assertive aroma of sweet caramel malt, multiple citrus fruits (orange, tangerine, lime, lemon), some dank weed, and fermenting pineapple. Palate is similar, with ample citrus and tropical fruit hop flavors, mango/papaya, and a LOT of pineapple, some earthy/woody notes, a sour green flavor like unripe bananas, and a decent but not overpowering bitter hop finish. Malt flavors trend toward the lighter side of crystal (sweet honey) and the body is silky smooth and not cloying. Only a little pine. Nice malt-hops balance. I'd say the hops are flavorful and interesting but not as potent as some other west coast IPAs. Red Racer is more citrusy, floral and bitter, whereas this brew is smoother and more weighted towards the sweet tropical fruit/pineapple flavors.

On draft at Alibi Room, Vancouver.

Pale amber with steady white film that sheets.
Oily tangerine nose with some slight dank.
Sweet caramel up front then big orange, lemondrop and slight pineapple hops.
Lemon-herb cough drop end and steady clean bitter linger.
Smooth, round, medium, soft.

Silky body, maybe the smoothest local beer I've had. Balanced and integrated. This could be the #2 BC IPA behind Red Racer.

Lord of Hops
Sept 20, 2013 into Duvel glass

Appearance: 3.5
Hazy honey colored body with 1-2’ of white head

Smell: 4.25
Quite robust tangerine, mango, and orange/citrus flavors with a notable sweeteness. As the beer warms, you get a bit more breadiness of malt.

Taste: 3.75
Initial impression is that the bitterness is surprisingly subdued with only mild –moderate intensity more along lines of pale ale. Hops are still detectible with citrus notes with slight pine only. There is a mild balance bready, honey sweetness. Midway through malt becomes slightly more prominent, and then finishs with mild lingering bitterness.

Mouthfeel: 4
Mild soft carbonation. Mild to moderate thickness and astrignecy from hops. Very typical, but appropriate.

Overall: 4
Very aromatic IPA, with suprisely somewhat subdued bitterness. Quite balanced in malt vs hops in taste profile. Average to above average, but not necessarily world-class. Still, ends up being enjoyable and in some ways, bit more accessible than an enamel-stripping IPA.

Recommend to consider to try.

Coming in a tall 650ml brown bottle, BB date not available on the beer label/bottle, served lightly chilled in a straight imperial pint glass. Notes: the beer label specifies the ingredients to include Pale, Crystal and Carapils malts, Ahtanum, Simcoe, Chinook, Centennial and Citra hops; IBU 70.

A: hazy dark orangey amber in colour, coming with a tight and thick light beige frothy head with extremely good retention, on top of semi-lively carbonation.
S: sweet citric and lychee-ish hop aroma treads lightly on top of a solid caramely and malty backbone with an accent on McVitie's-like biscuits with a touch of cream, a good swirl gives rise to flowery nectar of hops and light piney notes, as well as an intense flow of sweetness.
T: smooth and softly effervescent on the entry, upfront comes a good body of caramel and pale malts with a little gristy feel, followed by plentiful yeasty bitter tang, moderate citric, lychee-ish and piney hops, tannic roasted tea, fresh mint leaves, acidic raw nuts, pear-ish esters, and soothing earthy bitterness to linger towards the finish, leaving alcoholic warmth to creep up only by stealth at the long end of each sip. Also, the acidity keeps at a very healthy level to balance off the sweetness overall.
M&O: the mouthfeel is generally smooth and kept afresh by the microscopic fizziness, the body remains medium and the flavour profile is generally well integrated; all in all, this is an unimposing IPA at 7.2%abv. and the hop varieties have all contributed selflessly to the mixture in the wizard’s cauldron, which is to say it’s hard to differentiate each component part from one another, either on the nose or on the palate. A rather balanced take on the beer style, very drinkable but perhaps not a top choice for hardcore hop heads. BTW, I think the yeast sediments sometimes do stand in the way b/w the finer flavours and the taste buds.
