Love the story about the monks making maple syrup that they use in this beer.
Appearance: Dark brown with a toffee tannish foam, it does not foam easy, so I recommend a slightly aggressive non-tipped pour to get a proper head on this beer.
Smell: A slight maple sweetness with a earthy nut like smell.
Taste: Slight biter maple stout like flavor, unique in it's stout with dry maple taste. Stout like bitterness and mouth feel.
Mouthfeel: the maple completes this beer as it is lighter in body then most stouts yet the maple dryness completes this beer profile nicely.
Overall: A nicely done stout with a nice dry maple flavor that completes this great beer.

Thanks to JLindros for sharing this can.
A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a nice dark brown almost black with almost black with a thin off white head that fades to leave light wisps and a thin halo.
S - Aromas of maple syrup and faint chocolate, there is some nice sweetness as well.
T - Taste is similar to the nose with light chocolate and roast. The maple is pleasant, not overly sweet, decent chocolate. Faint maple candy, good slightly sweet.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, thin, very watery.
O - Overall this was a very underwhelming beer, the maple is subtle like everything else with this beer.

Extra in trade, shared with rudzud
Pours a medium foamy creamy 1/2 finger head with medium retention, darker color, nice foamy lacing, pitch black with decent legs
Nose fair maple aroma, a bit of chocolate, some sweet caramel and dulce de leche, base beer is fairly light though, little toasty grainy malt
Taste again a bit light in the beer side, fair maple candy, a touch of chocolate and bitter roast notes, touch of spices, thin on the malt and beer in general, weird watery fruity thing too
Mouth is thin especially for a 6.5% stout, medium carb at least
Overall the maple is nice but the base beer is way too light

The beer is black with a nice big dark head that sticks around. When help up to the tight, the fainest of red can be seen from the edges of the glass. It smells like slightly burnt maple syrup. The maple notes are very nice. The burnt notes comes off as a bit harsh though, The taste is sweet without being cloying. The beer part of the taste isn't particularly complex, but the maple does add a nice touch. The mouthfeel is rich, but not extraordinary. The carbonation is on the lighter side. This is a decent stout.

Poured cold from a 16-ounce can into a "snulip" glass. This was a gusher, spewing foam all over the place when I opened the can. A fairly aggressive pour surprisingly yielded only a couple of fingers of tan foam atop an espresso-colored body, with a dark cherry-colored highlight or two. Allowing this to warm a bit brought out its subtleties. Roasted malt and espresso-bean bitterness up front, along with notes of tart fruit and maple. This is rather light in body for a stout, with a slightly watery mouthfeel. Not much sweetness or char, but there was some lingering oily sourness on the finish that I didn't care for. Aside from that, this is a pretty good beer if you're not expecting a sugary maple bomb.

Picked up a 4 pak of tall boys at Aldi's for 6.99. Not quite Aldi's in Germany where you can get a tall boy of Paulaner Oktoberfest for $E 0.79, but it will do. I pop the top and I get roasted malts, black licorice and molasses. Pours to a opaque jet black with a foamy three finger tan head. Taste is lots of molasses and charred malt, very nice. A bit thin on the mouthfeel. Finish is cocoa and bitters. A very nice beer.

Had on tap. Dark brown body with dark tan foam. Smell is more maple forward than taste, where the maple is in the background behind the toffee malt, dark fruit, and nuttiness. Smell is maple with toffee roasted nuts pairing. Little watery in the body, but nice roasted malt texture to break up the maple sweetness

The body is a bit thin otherwise this is a good maple stout. There is a good maple flavor and sweetness but not over board. Great for this time of the year, Feb in Wisconsin.
