On tap at Apex

A: Ripe orange. Light head that looks its resting.

N: Biscuity and grassy. Twigs and branches. Clementine oranges. This smells like someone forgot to dry hop it.

T: Brackish and earthy. Has a fall-like dried leave taste - not that I'd know - Some residual sugars. There's faint pineapple.

M: Medium mouthfeel. Sticky, but not drying.

Had high hopes for this one, but it's very average. Needs a lot of work.

This is the most unusual take on an IPA I've ever seen.
I can't describe the smell. Musty bed sheets?
I'm really having a problem with this one.
I started out liking it but as I work my way through the bottle I like it less.
Not that it's bad, quite the contrary. Enjoyable in a weird sort of way.
I bought two thinking I would give one to my son-in-law but I don't know if he's that adventurous.
I can't figure out how they came up with such flavors without infusing something they don't mention on the label.
Consume at your own risk. You might love it.

500 mL bottle, poured into a belgian tulip glass.

Aroma - peachy/citrus-y, and a hint of dirt/earth. Low malt aroma.

Appearance - Light golden yellow, nice frothy head, doesn't linger. Clarity is nice.

Flavor - a mixture of tropical fruit, peaches, and citrus with a hint of earthiness. The malt flavor is low, but I detect some biscuit-y notes. Bitterness is clean, and lingers for the perfect amount of time.

Mouthfeel - Dry, light and refreshing - exactly the mouthfeel I want in an IPA.

Overall Impression - One of my favorite IPAs from this summer, I'd saved this bottle for a few months (for shame!) and the hop character was still as bright and fresh as I remember.

A - Pours a hazy pale and light orange with a two inch soapy/foamy mixed head with great retention.

S - Biscuity, orange and some grass.

T - Grassy, hoppy and pretty light.

D - Good carbonation and a light body.

O - A light sessionable-like grassy IPA with no bitterness. I was disappointed at first, but ended up really enjoying it.

Served on tap into a tulip glass

A- Poured a semi-hazy golden color with frothy white head that left spotty lace.

S- Peach, tropical fruit, piney, and sweet caramel malt notes.

T- Very balanced with peach, piney, sweet caramel malt, and citrus notes. Probably the most balanced DIPA I have had in a while.

M- Very smooth, pretty high carbonation, dry, and very refreshing. Very easy to drink and no detection of alcohol whatsoever, can't believe this is 9%.

O- Kind of reminds me of a lighter version of Pliny with a similar flavor profile, great balance, and a really nice mouthfeel- just not as bold in the hop or malt profile.

500mL bottle.

Appearance - Pours a hazy golden nectar colour with hints of copper, along with two fingers of bubbly, frothy white head.

Smell - Malts, earthy hops, peppercorns and spices, orange peel, tropical fruits.

Taste - Earthy hops and malts along with grass, pepper/spices, orange peel and a hint of the tropical fruits.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Dry finish.

Overall - A unique American IPA that uses different flavours than the standard. Nice homestyle touch with the Sterling hops from Oregon.

A: pours a clear orange nice head and lacing
S: smells of some old lady's nasty perfume when she has way too much on, also some Belgian yeast scent and spice in there. Yuck!!
T: sweet heavy sweetness followed by spices and yeast.
M: pretty heavy and syrupy mouthfeel
D: pretty hard to choke down weird smell and taste along with syrupy thick mouthfeel. I'd pour it out if I hadn't spent so much. Crux apparently thinks very highly of their beer charging that much

1/2 liter bottle poured into my Bier Stein snifter, Insider is clear light gold with a white head leaving light foamy lace.

Smell is really dank hops, big cat pee, very herbal, a little brackish. Unusual, not the typical citrus and pine of west coast IPAs, but still typically big. Some sweet bubblegum as well.

Taste is spicy and resinous, some sweetness, a little grassy. Again, this is an unusual take on a DIPA, and I like it more and more with each sip.

Mouthfeel light bodied and very dry, sticky resins.

Drinkability is pretty good, a very interesting DIPA, just on the cusp of being not good, but progresses from thought-provoking to tasty. The high ABV is well hidden as well.

Thanks to HuskyPDX for this bottle. 500ML, with a little cardboard tag about the brewery. Poured into my big imperial glass to hold the extra ounces. And away!

Appears as a pale yellow beer that's filmy, with a slow but persistent level of carbonation via bubble. Nose leans towards peaches rolled around in damp earth before the brewing process, with a low level of herbals & distant pine. Unusual.

Insider takes some liberties with the letters i,p, and a. One of the strongest components of peach I've tasted without peach actually being harmed in the making of the beer. Light touch of citrus &/or pine, with an attendant whomp of moderate bitterness that's quickly allayed by a sweet malt lick. One can imagine all sorts of bits & pieces of spices, grasses, maybe even orange. The mouthfeel might be the strength, sticky enough to seal envelopes or rejuvenate old Post-It notes; sappy. Though I still am not sure I'm enjoying it a ton, the liquid level in the glass seems to be dropping fairly quickly.

Interesting take on an IPA - even better that it's an 'interesting take' that doesn't suck. In fact, the more I sip, the more I enjoy it. Very odd, very resinous, very unique. And very good.

a: very hazy honey-like orange

s: tangerine peels? some yeasty spice? very interesting. Black pepper, some hop astringency perhaps.

t: much better on the taste. Big juicy tropical citrus. Blood orange, nectarines, orange peel. Very mild bitterness on the palate.

mf: Mild/ appropriate carbonation. Very dry feel on the back end.

Overall, not really an IPA by any means. This is more non denominational. The pilsner malt and hop profile make it read more like a strong pilsner, but the dry citrus feel aftertaste takes that away. Another interesting brew from Crux.
