Big thanks to libbey for this bottle... Bottled March 18, 2013...
A: Pours a deep dark brown, basically black, with one full finger of frothy light khaki colored head. The foam takes a bit to settle, leaving a nice rocky layer along the top of the beer. There is a tremendous amount of lacing as it drinks.
S: The nose is sweet, roast, chocolate, malt, and vanilla with slight lacto notes. I get a nice roasted malt bill up front and it mixes with milk chocolate and vanilla notes. In the background I get a slight bit of lacto, but nothing too overwhelming.
T: The taste follows the nose. Upon first sip I am met with roast and toast, but those flavors transition almost immediately into milk chocolate and other sweets. As it moves to the back end I get some more roast that tightens the beer up a bit and comes on slightly bitter. In the finish I get that slight lacto sourness, reminiscent of tart cherries.
M: Medium bodied beer. It's wet and smooth, but not super coating or silky. The flavors coat the palate, but slide off nicely with time. Mild tartness in the back end. Nothing lingers on the palate for long after the beer is gone.
O: Very nice beer. It's a solid porter, and it's super drinkable. The flavors are good and this beer doesn't destroy the palate. It's well balanced, which is key in a porter, and I'd drink this again if I had the chance.

mid sweet molasses malt aroma, low to mid carbonation, sweet molasses, not complex. Can't taste the chocolate or special ingredient of licorice.
