“Bitter English”… it’s been nearly 240 years, they probably aren’t that bitter anymore, right? Anyway: this is our take on a traditional English Bitter, arguably the most widely-made style in all of the UK. Bitters are enjoyed in pubs all across the English countryside. You could even say that it’s the English Bitter-style that originated the idea of “sessionable”. Our version has a mineral dryness nicely complimented by a balanced hop bitterness. The beautiful, amber color is the result of crystal and brown malts. With a light body, low carbonation, and an ABV of 3.4%, it’s the perfect beer for your next session.

Sample from the brewery.

LOOK: Clear brassy color, good stickage on the glass

SMELL: Herbal, earthy, black tea, peppercorn, grassy, mineral

TASTE: Herbal, earthy, grainy, wet, lighter bodied, smooth, bitter, tea, dired grass, biscuity, woody, walnuts, faint fruitiness, dry finish

Beers like this are either reminders or very educating that smaller beers can be complex and flavorful ... also showing what an English Bitter is with out the age of a long transport from across the ocean. Very fresh with a full on English character that will certainly not be mistaken for anything else. Nicely done.

On draft at the Dutch Ale House, Saugerties, NY.

Poured a light copper hue with a slight wispy white cap.
There was decent retention and good sticky lacing.

The smell featured a light grainy malt coupled with a slight grassy hop.

The taste was balanced and light with a fresh grassiness atop a clean grainy malt.

The mouthfeel was light and moderately carbonated.

Overall a very quaffable ale.

Had it on tap at the brewery. Look, aroma, taste, finish, all exceptional. Really enjoyed the mineral, hard water taste with a touch o hops. The low abv is actually a positive, allowing for a nice session, as well as the opportunity to try a lot of the other styles in the tap room. Highly recommend it.
