Brash Texas Exile "ale brewed with coffee" and "Mercury brewing" on the humorous label.

A: Light brown head over a near black body. Lacing coats the glass.

S: Coffee and caramel dominate the aroma which also has a hint of toffee.

Coffee and dark roasted malts dominate the flavor, with good balance ... meaning the roasted grains dominate the coffee. The coffee is obvious but not overdone in the lingering aftertaste either. Rich but a bit lacking in complexity. Pleasantly boozy aftertaste.

O: very good. 10.5% ABV is very well hidden.

S-coffee, cocoa, chocolate, and a sweet sugar with a roasted aroma
T-coffee taste a chocolate background that turns to a very bitter roasted hop aftertaste that last til the finish
M-full body and medium carbonation
O-the taste was overpowering coffee taste that goes to an overpowering roasted bitterness with a coffee flavor the whole way

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a rather large brown foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry coffee notes with some floral undertones and some light dry roasted malt notes are also noticeable. Taste is also dominated by some floral dry coffee notes with some dry roasted bitter malt notes. Body is quite full with nice creamy texture with some good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Nice use of floral coffee notes with solid porter base.

22 ounce bottle, bottled on 11/28/12. Guess I'll find out if I should have drank this one sooner or not, I've had this bottle for about 6 months now and just haven't got around to drinking it until tonight. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that sticks around a while. There's also a lot of lacing. The brew smells like coffee, roasted malt, milk and bittersweet chocolate, and some brown sugar. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also some burnt/charred malt, and a bit of a mineral flavor noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's slick and creamy with a decent amount of carbonation. After a year, I think this has held up pretty well. I liked it a lot, it's a good coffee beer. It's nice and roasty. Next time I'd like to to try a fresher bottle of this. $10.49 a bomber.

On tap at Boneyard Bistro in Sherman Oaks, CA.

Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. A foamy curtain of lace coats the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and cookie dough aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, vanilla, cookie dough, and slight smoke flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that starts to get more roast and smoke forward as it warms up.
