Alcohol, bourbon, and hints of chocolate and coffee greet the nose. It pours brilliant dark brown under a 1” very finely bubbled tan head that dissipates to a thick film. The palate mirrors the nose with bittersweet chocolate, coffee, bourbon, and alcohol. Its surprisingly dry for such a big beer and finishes with some bitter chocolate astringency. Very rich and creamy, full bodied to chewy with a pleasing alcohol warmth. This is a good beer but the chocolate and the coffee are almost too dry and intense. It might be more drinkable if it were dialed back just a hair but on the other hand, I do like it.

Apparently this is a bourbon barrel aged coffee stout.

Little head. Jet black. Little carbonation. Anise nose. Thin mouthfeel for the style. It's a coffee stout but all you can taste is the bourbon barrel treatment. Very very hot. Could probably use some time in the cellar.

Good beer. Not a great beer.

appearance: Very dark and nearly opaque. Some slight ruby highlights around the edges when held to light. For an 11.5%'er, impressive mocha head and messy lacing.
smell: Wow, rich fudge and espresso. Not particularly complex, but deeply rich and pleasing.
taste: A bit thinner than the nose. Much of the same flavors of the nose initially, a little watered down, then a bitter-sweet finish.
mouthfeel: A little thin for an imp stout.
overall: Nicely done. Alcohol is well hidden. Tasty dessert or aperitif.

Poured into a Due South Brewing Co. snifter. Bottleneck says Bottled on 03/13/13.

A- Pours an ominously opaque black color with an 1/8 inch light brown head that barely retains before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and some light, wispy surface foam. Non-resilient lacing leaves a thick ring behind.

S- Heavy dark roast aroma with some solid coffee and oak aromas. Slightly sweet, chocolaty and has a slight nutty quality.

T- More dark roast with some more subtle oak flavors plus chocolate, coffee and vanilla in the aftertaste. Very smooth with the high ABV being hardly noticeable. Ends up being a bit on the sweet side which is fine.

M- Thick and slightly syrupy. Medium-low carbonation with an extremely full body.

O- I gotta hand it to Brash, their extreme beers are pretty impressive with the exception of their Cold Ass Honky Saison.

Poured form a 650 ml bottle into a footed tulip.

A: Black. Pours about a half finger, ruby brown, foamy head. Dissipates quickly leaving only a small collection of bubbles and a beer ring. Substantial lacing.

S: Roasted espresso, dark chocolate, black licorice, vodka, almond, and molasses.

T: Bitter unsweetened chocolate with charred espresso. Heavy presence of licorice and pecan shells. A little harsh.

M: Heavy and hearty. High alcohol character, and a bit of an overly bitter finish.

D: Sip and enjoy.

Atmosphere is strong. Dark hue, cool-looking ruby brown foamy head. Plenty of lacing. Nose is a great combination of coffee, chocolate, licorice, sweet components with something of a pure alcohol thing. Bitter chocolate and coffee. High alcohol feel, I have to assume from the bourbon barrels. Overall, this is a really good quaff.

A - Pours pitch black with a thin dark tan head. Body seemed thick but not much lacing.

S - Bourbon, vanilla, brown sugar and expresso.

T - Bitter dark chocolate mixed in with black expresso. Some licorice then vanilla. Bourbon barreling seems a bit overwhelming but calms down.

M - Full bodied, viscous and low carbonation. Can seem a bit cloying on the flavor.

O - It's a mess, but a good mess. Maybe time will do it good but until then it's still enjoyable now.

Bottle from Andover Liquors.
Pours a solid black with a smallish tan head that holds some retention. Aromas of brown sugar, milk chocolate, fudge, coffee, a touch of alcohol and bits of oak and vanilla. The flavor is sweet with lots of dark sugars, milk and dark chocolates, bits of dark dried fruits, and a bit of wood. Light earthy citrus hop flavor. There is a strong alcohol presence that burns on the way down allowing me to trace each sip on its journey towards my stomach. Thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet thick oily syrupy mouthfeel. This beer smells really good but the alcohol presence in the flavor keeps me from really enjoying this beer.
