A-black with a brown head that leaves a heavy lace
S-bourbon, coffee and hops with some alcohol aroma
T-hops, coffee and malt is heavy at first, then comes the bourbon aftertaste with a good alcohol waming with both lasting til the end
M-full body, sticky, and medium carbonation
O-balance is great with this beer. The hops, malt, bourbon, and alcohol warmimg balance this beer out where nothing was overpowering.

Poured into a Due South Brewing Co. snifter. Bottleneck says Bottled on 03/13/13.

A- Pours an ominously opaque black color with an 1/8 inch light brown head that barely retains before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and some light, wispy surface foam. Non-resilient lacing leaves a thick ring behind.

S- Heavy dark roast aroma with some solid coffee and oak aromas. Slightly sweet, chocolaty and has a slight nutty quality.

T- More dark roast with some more subtle oak flavors plus chocolate, coffee and vanilla in the aftertaste. Very smooth with the high ABV being hardly noticeable. Ends up being a bit on the sweet side which is fine.

M- Thick and slightly syrupy. Medium-low carbonation with an extremely full body.

O- I gotta hand it to Brash, their extreme beers are pretty impressive with the exception of their Cold Ass Honky Saison.

Bottle from Andover Liquors.
Pours a solid black with a smallish tan head that holds some retention. Aromas of brown sugar, milk chocolate, fudge, coffee, a touch of alcohol and bits of oak and vanilla. The flavor is sweet with lots of dark sugars, milk and dark chocolates, bits of dark dried fruits, and a bit of wood. Light earthy citrus hop flavor. There is a strong alcohol presence that burns on the way down allowing me to trace each sip on its journey towards my stomach. Thick body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet thick oily syrupy mouthfeel. This beer smells really good but the alcohol presence in the flavor keeps me from really enjoying this beer.

Bottled 03/15/13. Bout six months old.

A: Pours a very dark brown but not quite black. Very large and very dense dark brown head. Head fades away very very slowly, barely seems to be making any sort of progress in fact. Excellent thick lacework left behind. Great retention.

S: Huh. Kinda smells like hot cocoa. And three musketeers. Interesting. Pretty mellow aroma really. Get brownies sometimes. Regardless, subtle for the ABV and age. The base beer was a lot more aromatic than this. A confusing but still good smell, if that makes any sense.

T: Very very mild bourbon up front. Hints of oak and toffee mainly. Nice bitter coffee bean and bittersweet chocolate follows. Caramel kicks in with some vanilla in the finish. Lingering coffee bean in the aftertaste. Flavors are surprisingly mellow like the aroma.

M: Fairly heavy and viscous. A little astringent, almost chalky.

O: A confusing beer. The base beer is excellent, I absolutely adored it. Somehow this isn't quite as good. Bourbon is very mild and barely adds anything. All of the flavors and aroma are very muted compared to the base beer. Well-integrated ...maybe. Almost a little muddled instead. Gone is the sharp and delicious coffee, it's more of an afterthought here. It's the world's mildest 11.5% barrel aged imperial coffee stout, I can tell you that much. Whether this is a good or a bad thing, I haven't quite decided. It's tasty, just a bit of a letdown after the amazingness of Texas Exile (which I gave a 4.4 to, by the way)
