Poured into a New Belgium goblet. Bottleneck says Bottled On 4/10/13

A- Pours a completely opaque black color with a 1/2 inch light brown head that retains quite well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a large streak of surface foam. Resilient lacing leaves a thin jagged ring behind.

S- Great milk chocolaty nose with lots of caramel and vanilla sweetness.

T- Flavor follows the aroma with rich chocolate and dark roast. Slightly bitter with tinges of molasses and toffee. Alcohol is very well-hidden as well.

M- Creamy, soft and slick. Bit of a dry afterfeel. Medium carbonation and a heavy body.

O- A very straightforward but enjoyable milk stout from a brewery that I'm starting to warm up on. Makes me want to buy Hot Fuzz next,

22oz bottle poured into a snifter.

Inky black with not light penetration. Has a bubbly brown head that dissipates quickly.

Cocoa nib, milk chocolate and booze.

Cocoa nib, milk chocolate and charcoal. A bit boozey. Roasted barley and cocoa powder. Peppery alcohol.

Medium plus bodied, smooth and warming.

Not as much lactose character that I'd expect from an "Imperial Chocolate Milk Stout." Tastes rather average for what it is. Save yourself some money and buy some Old Rasputin.

Pour is a rich, opaque brown-black liquid, topped by a chocolate brown, mahogany foam that depletes quickly to a thin skein, with rings of lace.

Upon pouring the scent unloads from the glass, I detect a choco-roasty smell a good 2-feet away. At the nose - loads of rich dark chocolate, roasted malt, hints of roasted coffee beans, subtle dark fruits.

Taste - wow. There's a bit of ABV heat and hop/dark chocolate bitterness right up front. That's very interesting. Now I'm getting a tartness of currants and/or unripe cherries. This beer starts out assertive. Here comes the rich roasted malt, milder chocolate, some sweetness - finally. Brown sugar. Black strap molasses. Coffee undertones with dark cherries. Enjoying.

This is a sipper.

Medium heavy body, nicely carbonated. Creamy, holds together well. I'm really enjoying this one. A nice presentation of bitterness/sweetness/chocolate/coffee/tart. The bitterness lingers and the finish is clean enough to keep on sipping.

This more or less oozed out of the bottle, and the color seemed, at first, to be very dark purple, about the color of a day-old bruise. Once it settled, and the nice mahogany head (sadly, inexplicably!) vanished, the color now seemed settled - intensely dark brown, almost pitch-black, but with a few light-brown, purple highlights. There's not much in the fumes department, other than a whiff of chocolate liqueur, some vanilla. What it is lacking in smell, it more than makes up for in its taste. It really is an intense, immediate, and lasting wallop of things: sugary (brown sugar, un-refined), melted bitter-sweet chocolate, buttery caramel, rum-soaked raisins and prunes, espresso. Then more chocolate, like the kind that oozes out of a cookie and gets scorched on the cookie sheet. I'm not detecting any lactose, and no lacing, but man this stays with you.

The label is interesting. Are we to take this beer with us into the breach, the zone, the quarantined radioactive no-man's-land so that it will give us life and the power to believe?

This beer had all the makings for a great beer, but it was far too heavy and by after a fourth of the beer, I was over it. If it wasn't too thick, this beer would of been amazing. Frankly, I was very disappointed by it. I still have faith in Brash, though.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a dark, almost black coloring with chestnut highlights around the edges and a frothy, dense, half inch chocolate tan head that quickly settles into a filmy coating. Tasty looking brew that pours rich and smooth. Aromas of coffee and bittersweet baker's chocolate, with some hints of booze and earthy highlights. Flavors are rich, roasted, and super smooth. Wow. Bittersweet chocolate, with a creamy backbone, balancing both rich sweetness and bitter notes. Very tasty and very drinkable, doing a good job to blend robust flavors with a kick of booze. The beer is smooth, creamy, and rich in mouth, with a hint of bitterness at the end of the palate, drying slightly. The finish is rich, sweet, and roasty, but avoids cloying with the subtle bitter dryness. Very tasty, very quaffable brew.
