Reviewed from last night's notes:

Poured into a snifter glass. The beer pours golden with lots of visible carbonation and a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is of peach, grass, lemon, and some toffee. The flavors follow the aroma. I get the peach and lemon with some of the light bready malt and some toffee. I also get some of that grassy hop bitterness. This is an interesting take on a saison. The 8.5% ABV is well hidden and I would never guess this was 8.5% ABV. The body is medium with spritzy carbonation. The finish is dry and there's some mild lingering hop bitterness in the back. While I can't taste the alcohol, I do start to feel it during the consumption of the beer. This is an excellent beer.

I really enjoyed this. Poured a dark hazel color with a haze to it and a lasting head that kept up. The smell was great with citrus and hop scents coming through. The taste was great with hints of banana and clove along with orange peel and the pine hops. I thought that it was incredibly well balanced but still had enough spice to be a memorable beer. Would definitely recommend.

Pours a very murky orange/gold with a finger high layer of tight white foam. Below average retention leads to lots of sloppy lacing left on the glass that begins to slide down with time.

Juicy and boozy. Plentiful heavy fruit tones with pineapple, apricot and orange citrus, a bit of dank herbs and lemongrass too. Doughy malt sweetness with white bread crusts. Sluggish yeast and alcohol adds a cloudy fog of must and solvents.

Doughy malt with a patchy grain and cake batter sweetness. Some musty spice and herbs from the yeast and hops; pine, clove and orange peel but overall very sluggish and dank. Alcohol is kept in check by the yeast and vast malt.

Overly syrupy and cloying body, way too sluggish for a saison. Barely enough carbonation and alcohol rears its head often. Yeast adds some powder flavors but it doesn't substitute for a drying or refreshing feel.

If this really were General Lee like on the label it would never get off the ground. A sluggish body, weighed down by the load of 'moonshine' and just not enough bright saison flavors to overcome those faults.

Poured into a Funky Buddha Brewery snifter. Bottled on 07/03/13.

A- Pours a murky medium amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a sheer sheet of surface foam. Not-so-resilient lacing leaves a curvy ring behind.

S- Sweet, juicy aroma with notes of pineapple and orange plus some light malt. A bit of booze and zesty yeast.

T- Some citrus comes on first and shows more fruit notes like grapefruit and tangerine, then comes some bitterness and yeast richness. Finally, there's a substantial malt backing and some alcohol punch at the end. All the flavors, including tart, bitter, citrus, sweet and so forth, come together but don't quite meld in a way that makes them enjoyable. They're just sort of...there.

M- Moist with a dryness on the back end. Medium carbonation with a body leaning toward the lighter side.

O- Unique, but nothing exciting. It drinks nice for the ABV. Sort of an Imperial Saison that doesn't hit the mark.
