Served on-tap in a pint glass

Appearance – Served a beautiful golden orange color with a bit of haze. The head served on the beer is light and fades very fast, leaving only the slightest bit of lacing.

Smell – The nose is very light. There was a very light citrus hop aroma mixed with some floral in the beginning. This faded fast and gave way to a very mild roasted malt aroma with a light yeasty smell. Very light.

Taste – A bitter hoppiness of grapefruit and some earthy flavors as well as roasted malt flavor are most pertinent up front. There are some light yeast cake flavors throughout the taste profile; light but ever present. Toward the middle of the taste, it sweetens a bit, with some orange citrus and a very light tropical fruit flavor. Overall these sweeter flavors are rather light in comparison to the parent bitter taste.

Mouthfeel – Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Nothing special, but not bad either. Just normal.

Overall – This was an alright beer although a bit more dry then I was expecting.

Update to the review below 6-24-13: I bought another six pack of Pallet Jack at the brewery this past week, and I must say that it is AWESOME! I really love the way the hop aroma and flavor play perfectly off the Belgian yeast's spicy and fruity-ester character. A great pale ale boarding on an IPA. Would love to see Ottos crank this up into a "Fork-Lift" IPA or combination IIPA/Belgian Tripel. Its a great brew and could spawn an amazing line of belgo-american hybrids. Definitely give this a try! I hope it becomes an regular seasonal or a year-round...Cheers!

Bottle - decanted into tumbler pint...

The wife brought home a six pack for me...I wasn't expecting anything unique and definitely not this tasty...This has changed my opinion of american-belgian-crossover pale styles...

A - Cloudy golden-straw-yellow...nice head and lacing...

S - Very very nice! Complex! Floral, Citrus, and Pine intermingled with that estery-old world belgian yeast complexity...

M - Soft, creamy, with a little carb sting and a slight dryness...very good

T - The flavors are great...piney, citrus, herbal, fruity-esters, a soft yeasty biscuit note, awesome! The hop flavors are superb! The wheat quality is apparent but it mingles nicely!

Overall - So crisp, refreshing, and unique...this is a great American-Belgian Pale Ale...I'm a huge fan...Awesome hop character in the aroma and flavor...nicely balanced...a perfect spring and summer pale ale...and it wakes up the pallet from the vast sea of monotonous hoppy brews floating around out there! Definitely give this a try if you like a great pale ale, and especially if you enjoy beglians, pale wheats, and unique hop character brews! I am loving Otto's more and more! Cheers!
