Otto's was the primary reason for this weekend beer excursion with my wife and recent BA (Brewslut). Nice... a nod to beer AND Zappa. How lucky am I?
We settled into Otto's ridiculously packed parking lot on the evening of Friday, January 18 and literally must have gotten the last open spot. We hurried in, but were greeted with a 40-min. table wait, so we decided to try our luck at the bar, which is our preferred seating arrangements anyway. We waited for a few minutes, and soon enough two stools opened, so we sat down. The selection looked good, with their standard line-up, plus a few extra stouts and two cask conditioned brews, plus an additional firkin for their Firkin Friday event. All in all, there were eleven brews (minus their tasty Double D IPA, unfortunately). I opted for the Centennial Pale Ale on cak, which was quite tasty (see my seperate review). After ordering our food, we also decided to order two sampler flights, and the bartender threw in an extra beer, so we were able to sample all eleven brews... even the casks! We agreed that their Spruce Creek lager was exceptional, and all of the beers were above average.
For dinner, we split the Veggie Goat Wrap, which consisted of portabellas, eggplant, squash and peppers marinated in balsamic and wrapped in a tortilla wrap with other veggies and goat cheese. It was quite tasty, and also came with fries, which were not as memorable, and a pickle.
Aside from being a mob scene, the service was excellent, and our main bartender was quite jovial and friendly, despite obviously being slammed. He was able to answer all of the questions I had about Otto's. I'd love to visit again when it's not as crowded, but the smoke-free atmosphere was certainly a plus. This is going to become a must-visit every couple of months.

As a beer lover and now Penn Stater I need some place to get my local beer fix. Otto's fulfilled my expectations perfectly. Since I've been here, I visited four times, and each time has been a wonderful experience.
First of all, the beer is pretty good. Not world class, not even great in some cases, but is mostly pretty darn tasty. For the craft newcomers, I'd say the Apricot Wheat, Apple Tripel, and Black Mo are safe bets. I was a big fan of the Green Hop Ale III and the Wee Heavy. Flights of 5 beers are available for $5. It's a no-brainer.
Service was great. Each time my waiter/waitress was very patient and informative.
The food might be the best part. Last time I had the Elk Burger Club. Just great. My brother has gotten the Pretzel Roll Sandwich each time he's been and that is just delicious. The fries (potato and sweet potato) are perfect.
You won't be disappointed with this place, whether you're looking for beer, food, or both.

Ottot is the original happy valley brew pub. Everything that the make is great. The food and service are top notch and the menu is exceptional for a brewpub. They take pride in what they do and it shows. The dry stout on nitro is my favorite. So we'll done! Red mo is nice too and most of their standard offerings are available in keg, case and six pack. The beer geek destination in central pa!!!
