Enjoyed a pint at the taproom, now enjoying a growler from home. Pours a hazy amber color with two fingers of head that had good retention before settling to a thick cap. Moderate amount of sticky lacing is left down the glass.

Not the most aromatic pale ale. I pick up some floral hops, bready malt, and sweet caramel.

For an APA the flavor runs a nice balance between sweetness and bitterness. Size wise it is approaching IPA territory. Not as sweet as the aroma would have suggested. More bready than caramel. Nice dose of floral hops. Nice change of pace from the usual C-hops. I really enjoyed the clean finish.

Body is big for an APA. Good carbonation and texture. Very consistant throughout.

A quality brew from one of Minnesota's newest breweries. Keep an eye on these guys.

Oxidation and huge cloying sweetness dominates. Chewy and not at all refreshing. Wildly disappointing. Had two different times to ensure first experience wasn't a one off problem.

on-tap at last year's state fair, review from notes

look is an orange-amber with a small sudsy head. smell is fruity pine, lemon, apple and orange. taste is a healthy amount of pine, lemon, and fruity esters. slightly slick feel that gets better as it warms.

worth trying, for sure

L-Tan colored...nice lacing on glass.

S-Nice floral hop aroma

T-Pretty nice balance here between a bisuity malt base and the floral hops....

F-Finishes on the dry side...a little too much pure bitterness on the finish.

O-This is a workman like APA...nothing exceptional but a solid drinkable APA with a little too much hop harshness on the finish than I like

This is a great example of an extra pale ale, not sure what makes one an "extra" of a normal, more malts or hops perhaps, maybe a slightly higher a.b.v.? Any way one of my all time favs has always been summit's E.p.a., REALLY looking forward to it in CANS in a few months, for the fact that it such a PERFECTLY BALANCED beer, this is almost an EXACT clone of summit's e.p.a. its scary! the hop presence is definitely there, and well as the wheat and malt sweetness but everything is blended to perfect, no one flavor overtakes anything else, really a beer for any time especially for those times when you really have no idea what you're in the mood for! Good job to the guys at Excelsior brewing, look forward to other more of their beers
