Chilled 22 oz. bomber into 33 cl tulips.
Look- clear deep amber with a hint of red. Pours with a finger and a half of off-white head that falls to a cm or so of foam that hangs around. A few globs of suds cling to the glass, but I wouldn't call it lacing.
Smell- Floral, light citrus, some booze and honey. More pungent and piney as it warms, along with a more pronounced nutty aroma. Reminds me of Cigar City for some reason.
Taste- Surprisingly and intriguingly complex malt mixes it up with the hop bite. Nougat, vanilla, lemon pith, clover honey. Fades to apricot and a touch of booze. Aftertaste is like honeyed spruce tea. I mentioned honey a few times - while it's sweet-ish, it's not overly so. More vanilla and nutty malt emerge as it warms.
Mouthfeel- Full, medium carbonation. Warm, a touch boozy but not offensively so. Easy drinking.
Overall- Well, I'm surprised. They put a lot into this beer, and it shows. Well above average, not a stupid hop bomb like most Triple IPAs- lots of flavor and complexity, on par with some of the better barleywines I've had but distinctly American. Definitely recommended.
