Served on tap at Opal Divine's Marina in Austin, TX

A: Pours a murky dark brown in color (almost black) with light amounts os amber highlights when held up to the light and a moderate amount of visible carbonation. The beer has a two finger tall frothy beige head that slowly reduces to a thin film covering the majority of the surface of the beer with a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Strong aromas of spices - cinnamon, clove, ginger, cardamon, and black pepper.

T: Like the smell, the only real taste I get in this beer is that of the spices - cinnamon, ginger, cardamon, and black pepper. There are even some earthy tea-like notes as well.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Moderate amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: Interesting concept but not quite successful in the execution - I like the idea of a beer with the chai tea spices but those same spices were a little too dominant in the flavor and aroma (a little restraint might have greatly improved the outcome with this beer).

On tap at the Common Table’s 2nd anniversary party. The beer pours an amber color with an off-white head. The aroma is very spicy, as expected. I get some cinnamon and clove notes, as well as some additional spices that sort of all run together. The flavor is also extremely spicy and somewhat of a mess. There is some clove and cinnamon once again, as well as some ginger and some earthy tea notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. There is a ton going on here, which I think takes away from the overall beer since it is a bit of a mess.

Like an IPA, except instead of hops they used cloves. A hazy brown in the pint shaker. Nice head on the stuff.

What's interesting about this is how bitter it is, from start to finish. If this was sweet it would be undrinkable, but it's actually quite dry. It's just the total overload of spices of every description. This also seems quite peppery and hot. Cinnamon makes an appearance but it seems like more cloves than you could possibly imagine would be good for a beer. Still, it's clean and well made. The Rogness Bière de Garde was so good I think it's a brewery to watch.

As peculiar and intriguing as this is, even two of us can't get through a pint. But for you extreme beer athletes, this is a challenge to be met. On tap at the Westside Tap not far from Pflugerville.

Poured into a pint glass a dark murky brown. Good thick white head and good lacing. Looks like they've figured out their bottling problems because this one has plenty of carbonation. I tried a bottle of Gigantophis that was flat and apparently their first attempt at bottling. So good job on this one guys!!!

The scent is amazing. I have a terrible nose, but I can find everything in the scent of this one. Cinnamon and Cloves are very prevalent.

The taste . . . whoa. Everything that made the scent strong is over kill on the taste. There's just so much spice that you can't taste any off what makes a beer a beer.

The mouth-feel isn't all that great because of the large amount of cinnamon, it dry's out the tongue. But carbonation is much improved.

Overall, bottling quality is much improved. But this beer shows they're trying too hard.

My advice to this new brewery: Let's just start out making great beers of the top styles. Then experiment with stuff like this beer later.

Aroma- gingerbread. Slight head.

Color- clear amber.

Taste- an interesting spiced amber. Reminds us of a spiced winter warmer with a gingerbread cookie. Starts spicy with cloves dominating the beginning with mellowing cinnamon sweetness like cinnamon toast with a faint hoppiness in the finish. Label says it's brewed with saigon cinnamon, ginger, clove, cardamom, and black pepper. 39 IBUs

Tested on 1/25/14. Poured from 650 ml bottle into a Liefmans Goudenband glass (my preferred all purpose beer tasting glass).

Poured from a bomber into a Samuel Smith pint glass with a moderate hand. This bad boy survived the flight back from Dallas in the suitcase, despite TSA's best efforts to disrupt my well-engineered anti-shock system (read: wrapped in underwear). No date. First sampling from this brewer... Ever! [Confetti]

A: Pleasant chestnut amber with good clarity. 1-2 fingers of off-white head with good retention. Scant lacing.

S: The spices are definitely there. Clove. Is that an actual clove lodged in my nostril? Traces of cardamom. Green pepper corns. Quite herbal. Somewhat medicinal. Eucalyptus. Light bread notes as I get towards the bottom of the glass.

T: Surprising bitterness initially that carries throughout. An herbal dryness is fully established by mid-way. Very dry finish. A slight malt presence arises near the end. The spices are prominent (mostly clove, cinnamon, cardamom) and accentuate the bitterness. The lack of sweetness is distinct.

M: Moderate, rather smooth, carbonation. Body is fuller than the average amber and suits the beer well.

O: I like spices. I like spiced beers. Well, some of them. This one is pretty good. It is certainly amber in color, but the similarity between your garden-variety amber and this brew stops there. This is a dry, herbal concoction. I enjoyed the first pint, but I'd recommend sharing large bottle formats.

Very aromatic, reminiscent of chai tea. Well spiced but continues to remind our palates that this is a beer. Definitely one of the more drinkable spiced beers out there. A perfect example of what extreme beer can be, something fun and drinkable without ripping you palate to shreds.
