Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with a small, light tan head.

Smell: Aroma of roasty, smokey barley along with chocolate and a lesser note of fruit skins.

Taste: A mingling of roasted barley, baker's chocolate, and dark caramel with a mild sweetness. Earthy, roasty bitterness. Faint wisp of smoke. Touch of fruit -- a bit of red grape. Relatively light finish with a lingering fruitiness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.

Drinkability: So-so as far as Baltic Porters go.

From a 22oz. Bomber - Pours black in color with a small head - very low in carbonation. Smells of fruit and yeast overpowering the hop aroma. First sip is caramel and fruity (dark fruits), with raisins and fig notes. Not too bad, but not something worth seeking out.

A - Near black, deep brown with a thin tan head even with a vigorous pour.

S - Nutty, roasted malt, brown sugar, caramel and chocolate.

T - Very roasty, almost burnt grain giving it a touch of coffee flavor, chocolate and slightly nutty with some hop bitterness in the finish.

M - Slightly on the thin side with low carbonation.

D - A very tasty porter but missing the dark fruit characters I love in Baltic porters. If I would have tried this one blindly I would have guessed robust porter. Goes down way too easy for 8.2% ABV and seems to get better with every sip. I would pick this one up again.

Stopped at the Grumpy troll at lunch with my wife on my way through town. Had a few samplers and took a growler of this with me. They did a great job filling growlers there and it was only $9 with my own growler. It pours out a nice deep coke brown with a decent runny head. The body definitely looked like a craft rootbeer. Aroma was filled with deep dark sugars and roasted malts. They used a lager yeast on this so the fruits may have been a bit subdued in the nose. The taste is chewy with a malty sweetness that leaves a heavy dose of burnt sugar. The hops are present more on the bitterness side and dont contribute much for flavor but they balance out the richness of the body quite well. The body was a tad bit thin for a baltic, but not terribly far off the mark. I am not sure what the abv is on this one, but is so remarkably easy to drink that I wish would have gotten two growlers of it. Wonderful beer from a great brewpub!

Amnesia is named for a bicycle tire that grew out of a tree in Blue Mound.

Appearance: Deep dark brown, near black with a thick tan head.

Aroma: Roasted malts, caramel, and chocolate with a nutty dryness. Very pleasing.

Taste: Lots of chocolate mixed with very dark almost burnt roasted grains. Dashes of caramel and toffee. A pinch of nuttiness but no dark fruit. I’ve grown to expect a level of dark fruit (usually prune) booziness in Baltic Porters. This has neither booziness nor dark fruit character.

Mouthfeel: Thick, luscious, creamy, smooth, and roasty with a nicely drying finish.

Drinkabiltiy: Through the roof. This is one great Porter. It’s straightforward but it gets the chocolate and roasty flavors and aromas perfect. As a Baltic Porter, however, it fails on two accounts: 1. it is not strong enough. 2. I didn’t detect any fruity flavors.

Serving type: on-tap
