The Public House is an interesting mix of upscale bar, trendy (slightly pretentious) hangout, and English pub.

There are certainly places with broader beer selections, but The Public House carries many good and a few excellent brews to choose from covering most major styles; some are on tap, most are in bottles. They also proudly stock several beers from a local brewery, which I can respect (I'd respect it more if they'd chosen a brewery that had better quality products -- just sayin'). They also have a decent whisky selection, if you're in the mood.

The food is pretty good, with a mix of traditional pub classics like fish & chips and shepherd's pie, as well as more modern vegetarian and gluten-free selections.

If you go, expect to spend a lot on your evening relative to what you get: Bottles of beer that might cost $3-5 at other bars will run you $7-8 here. I guess you're paying for "the atmosphere."

A nice place with a local vibe that is more chill than party. Place prides itself on its ecclectic menu (I had the "duck" fries and cheese sticks and they were fresh and good) as well as its bourbon/whiskey selection and cocktails. Also has about 12 taps and about 30 bottles and with the exception of Bud bottles I think it's pretty much all micro. The taps is where this place is real nice to visit b/c they try to keep the taps for only the local breweries, and when I was there they had taps for Smartmouth, O'Connor and Devil's Backbone. As for the bottle selection they have some good ones but nothing hard to find or is an absolute beer geek essential. Not a complaint; just stating that so if you're not one into the 757's local beers and count on the bottle list this might not be your place. I have been here twice and the service has always been helpful and expedient.
