Notes/Commercial Description:
Misty Mountain is a great example of the American-style India Pale Ale synonymous with Craft Beer. Originally brewed for sailors on shipping routes between England and India, British IPAs are known for their strong hop bitterness, which were added as a preservative for the long voyage. The American adaptation is decidedly stronger and offers a more robust hop bite. Back East IPA is no exception. This assertively hopped beer has a great hoppy aroma, crisp hop bite, and smooth medium body.

Poured from a growler into a tumbler pint, the beer is a bright, vibrant, crisp, copper coloringw ith a thin, filmy, clingy, frothy, off-white head of about a quarter of an inch. Decent head retention as you drink. Aromas of roast toffee and biscuit in the backbone, with a mossy, peppery, cedar hops presence that smells both wet and rich. Flavors are hop forward, with a strong, green presence up front, heavy in cut grass, earth, and cedar pitch, followed immediately by a blast of resiny, bitter, and floral hops characteristics that balance with a tart blast of grapefruit. The malt profile is anchoring the brew, giving enough of a roasty, toasty, and slightly sweet backbone to keep your palate from being completely overhauled by the hops presence. This is a tasty, bold, big beer. All of the flavors build on the tongue as you drink, but at least the body is light and smooth enough to keep plowing through. Very green and bitter aftertaste, with only a hint of the citrus remaining. It's starting to feel like a foresty marsh of hops vines in my mouth, and that's not a bad thing. Very smooth, clean finish that clears quietly amidst the hops chaos the beer has left behind it. Very powerful, hop-heavy brew, with a dash of the citrus tart lingering behind...I really like it.

First time having this. In a can, poured in a glass. To me it smells like a lager. No potent or distinct smells. Taste is very smooth. At 7% it is just as easy to drink as a yuengling. Very refreshing. Very faint hop taste, smooth finish. I wouldn't say this is for hop heads, but overall a very good beer that could be refreshingly drank one after another.

12 ounce can.

w/o any freshness/canning date info

Pours hazed medium amber. Loose off white head and leaving decent looking rings and strands of lace.

On the nose its pine hops.

Respectable IPA, I get mostly pine and resin in the decent but not outstanding brew.

Growler from Brewery: This one pours a fairly clear coppery color. There was a small off white head that left some lacing. Nice hop nose. Pine and citrus dominate. The taste is very good. It has a good hop bite. Mainly citrus and pine flavors, with a decent malt body behind it. Nicely balanced.

12 oz. can poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Surprisingly dark amber body. Nice white head. Small collar and a wispy surface.

Smell - Estery and a little yeasty. Sweet doughy malts. A little bit of citrus hop. Doesn't smell like an IPA.

Taste - Quite sweet. Resiny pine hop. Again with the doughy malts. A touch of grain. Fruity estery finish.

Mouthfeel - Too sweet. Medium body. High carbonation.

Overall - This is an IPA? What? This was so boss...like boss hog, lol.
