Misty Mountain is a great example of the American-style India Pale Ale synonymous with Craft Beer. Originally brewed for sailors on shipping routes between England and India, British IPAs are known for their strong hop bitterness, which were added as a preservative for the long voyage. The American adaptation is decidedly stronger and offers a more robust hop bite. Back East IPA is no exception. This assertively hopped beer has a great hoppy aroma, crisp hop bite, and smooth medium body.

Canned 27 June.
A clear amber with a dense, beige head with great retention and lacing, this looks solid. The nose has pine, candied citrus peel, candied rose, some spruce resin and mint. Caramel and toffee and a little burn sugar bitterness are also present. The palate opens bitter with pine resin, a little grapefruit peel and pith. This is followed by a creamy, mildly caramel like sweetness along with toffee and even a little butterscotch. A little tomato-like flavor is present as well. Bitter, mildly resiny and moderately sweet on the finish, this beer is medium-light in body and moderately carbonated. Decent.

Golden yellow-orange in the glass, with a piney and slightly floral hop nose. On the palate it's piney and bitter, with a smooth mouthfeel with a dry and bitter finish. Bitterness is mid- to back palate. There's some citrus and floral notes, for sure (especially the floral), but this beer is piney. Moderate carbonation. It's a solid beer, very easy to drink a couple of these and enjoy them. I consider it a local high point, a superb go-to beer. Not a fussy gourmet IPA or a destination beer, but a winner in its own category.

On Tap. Pours golden fluffy white head and nice lacing. Aroma is of citrusy hops, bready malt and tropical fruit. Body is medium and slightly crisp. Taste is similar to aroma. Finish is long and dry. Very good brew.

Local pride earned no points here. No hop presence. Just a sweet generic skunked alcohol flavor. A perfect example of a hobbyists bad IPA. I hope this is the distributors or retailers fault in handling because this is very very poor.

A treat from connecticutpoet, canned 11/15/17.; Slightly hazy golden color with a tall fluffy bubbly head of 3 fingers. Lots of lace destroys the glass.
Aroma of pine needles, hop juice, bready malts, and slight grapefruit peel.
Flavor is kind of flat and terrible, with slight pine and old grapefruit peels. Slight rye malt character though I doubt it was used here.
Feel is well carbonated with an emptiness behind it, slight resin and doughy finish.
Overall I wish I would have spilled this one instead of Steel Rail which seemed to me to be an amazing beer. Bah.

From the tap in a mason jar, honey colored, relatively clear in appearance.
