Back East’s Imperial Stout is a full-bodied ale brewed with several varieties of dark roasted malt. It has a complex malt character with underlying hints of coffee and chocolate. A generous amount of English hops gives this ale a pronounced hop profile. This robust ale is unfiltered and bottle conditioned.

From the bottle of indeterminate age, it pours a stygian dark brown/black with a modest head that soon reduces to nothing. The nose gets roasted and black malts. The mouth gets the same: roasted malts, black malts and a lingering roasty flavor. Would probably go well with a cigar...

Looks like I'm the first person to review this beer in almost five years, and either our tastes have collectively changed, or this beer isn't as good as it used to be. Appearance was about as average as you can get. Very dark, with a thin mocha colored head, but nothing of any note visually. Aroma was the highlight. Rich, sweet and inviting, albeit not overly complex.
Taste is where this starts to lose it a bit, which is kind of an important thing for a beer. Overall, it's just unrefined and lacking depth. Boozy with some roast, but it lacks any refinement. It's like what an experimental beer would taste like that you would learn from for next time. No real depth. At first, it was pretty good, but over time, I enjoyed it less and less. Don't get me wrong, it's not a train wreck, but relative to what else is out there, this is a miss.

Poured into a snifter. Nice carbonation and lacing for a stout. Mildly roasty notes on the nose, a little coffee in the back. Taste is where this shines-it's not overpowering with roasty maltiness. It's got a nice little tang accompanying the stout notes. Not oily or too thick/too thin. Alcohol is hardly present. This is a very interesting and different take that in Imperial Stout.

Poured dark brown, veey foamy, massive head giving way to a fairly rich and dark heavy body.
Didnt quite hit me the right way on the nose the way many other imperial stouts usually do. Very roasty and was able to pick up notes of molasses and espresso.
Love the color and the feel, a bit bitter but I'd say a year of aging wouldv'e fixed that. A well balanced stout as well.
Overall not a bad choice for the price. I recommend this to many of our customers looking for a modertely proced local imperial stout.
