Notes/Commercial Description:
Back East’s Imperial Stout is a full-bodied ale brewed with several varieties of dark roasted malt. It has a complex malt character with underlying hints of coffee and chocolate. A generous amount of English hops gives this ale a pronounced hop profile. This robust ale is unfiltered and bottle conditioned.

Poured into a 16 oz snifter. Pours pitch black, with a two inch mocha head, that costs the sides of the glass with lacing. Smell is very strait forward chocolate, coffee, caramel, and vanilla. Taste is all of that, a little more roasty than I was expecting, really nice! Body is medium large, plenty of life, a little dry as you would expect, and goes down easily. This was a real surprise, solid price, and a excellent stout!

A black brew with rouge edges that presents a very luscious light brown head with modest, scattered lace. The nose picks up a malty charcoal with subtle raisin hints. There's a tasteful leafy hop edge in there as well. Solid. The flavor offers fairly thick malt and charcoal expertly blended. There's no alcohol notable and the body is medium though the feel is a bit chalky and slightly aqueous. Very likeable and drinkable for an imperial!

750ml bottle: Inaugural Batch! This one pours a dark, inky almost black color. there was a finger of a light brown head on it, but that didn’t linger. It has a nice nose. Chocolate, a bit of roast coffee, also some dark fruits hiding in there. The taste is quite good. It is nicely balance. Milk chocolate, hint of the coffee, caramel, faint dark fruits. A faint amount of sweetness with a somewhat dry finish. A very nice brew from our new local brewery!

Poured from a bomber into a tumbler pint, the beer is a very dark, viscous, black coloring with no highlighting colors. Opaque in appearance, with a thin, frothy, light tan head that starts a solid half an inch. Aromas of bittersweet baker's chocolate, roasty coffee, a touch of toffee, and a bit of booze. Smells rich and tasty. Flavors are very rich and smooth, with a kaluha backbone highlighted with ribbons of fudge, a touch of coffee, and hints of booze. Very smooth and robust in mouth, with a darkly sweet chocolate and booze aftertaste. Smooth, clean finish with a slightly bitter, roasted linger that keeps the mouth warm and toasty.

A: pours black with a finger of brown head that fades into a thin ring with little lacing.

S: roasted malts with a lot of bitter cocoa and smoke. Bitter coffee and char also come through.

T: similar to the aroma, tons of bitter roasted malts with bitter cocoa, char, and coffee.

M: thick body with mid-high carbonation, this beer has surprisingly highly carbonated.

O: a decent stout overall. Nothing special, but enjoyable.

Limited Edition, Inaugural Batch. 750 ml into a DFH signature glass.

A - Pitch black body. Initial pour yields a three finger high light mocha head that settles into a thin cap with some nice edging. Light lacing and retention, but a swirl produces a nice head.

S - Very roast heavy. Milk chocolate, coffee beans, strong and bitter roasty malts. Kind of has that Russian Imperial Stout aroma of bright dark fruits. Simple but nice.

T - Roasted malts, coffee beans, milk chocolate, and a lingering bitterness. Tasty beer. Mouth feel is medium bodied.

O - Nothing ground breaking, but a well made roast forward stout. This brewery is off to a great start.

A- Pours a deep dark, almost black, body, with reddish hues around the edges. A nice 2-finger khaki head sits atop for a little while. After it falls to a thin, sparse cap, it leaves some decent lace.

S- Milk chocolate up front (plays the biggest part), roasted malts, and a little caramel. Really, it actually reminds me of a milk/sweet stout by the smell.

T- Milk chocolate, a slight roasted coffee-ness, and a little bitter chocolate. None of the ABV comes through at all.

MF- This seems to be the downside of this beer. The flavor gets better as it warms, but the body seems to get thinner. It's doesn't gte water thin, but just enough to notice.

O- Not a bad beer. I had never seen this brewery before, and didn't even know they were from CT till I got home with it. Again, not bad at all, actually pretty good, just happens to be a little thinner than I prefer.
