Didn't add this to beerfly, looks like the staff did. While passing through the area, the location of this roadhouse on the edge of a forest preserve piqued my interest. Arrived just in time to see the Hawks score again against the Oilers 2-1. Compared to Bar Louie, this place was a bit more worn in and less "blasting the game".
The building is freestanding, "since 1933" according to an engraved stone by the front door. An old kitschy sign with a beer mug doodle proclaims "an alternative sports bar & grill" and i'd agree with that sentiment. It feels like someone put this place together by hand. Once you walk in there's a square island bar with a service area, and dining areas on either side, to the right there's an outdoor patio also.
12 taps at the bar were 50% craft, 50% macro, but there were some gems at least like GL Alchemy Hour for $5/12oz. In bottles they had Lagunitas Sucks, and were out of FFF Gumballhead, so at least people are drinking the good stuff here. Saw plenty of Coors drafts go out though too. Bottle list was well organized by style, with notes of brewery, price, and abv.
Service was friendly, and they let me know they expanded the tap selection to 12 about 18 months ago. Waitresses seemed to be friendly as well, as they were coming and going at the service area. Overall it's not a bad stop in an area where there aren't many great bars. Fairly near Golf Mill in Niles and ten minutes from the airport I guess.
