Pale straw colour with a smooth but small white head. Good clarity.

Fruity hop aroma with some sweet malt. Not grainy.

Lightly sweet malt and some clean, fruity hops. Not bad.

Medium-light body with moderate carbonation.

Slightly cleaner and a different hop to the Batch 51. Slightly more enjoyable.

330ml screw-top bottle. The presentation looks pretty schmick, even if their claim that there's a 50% chance this is Australia's perfect lager is overblown.

Pours a clear pale yellow hue, with a frothy, bubbly head of white that doesn't leave much in the way of lace. Carbonation is fine and quite sophisticated, moving languidly through the body. Looks like a pretty decent lager.

Nose is cloyingly sweet, with an odd carbonic resonance perhaps resembling hops giving it some odd bouncing overtones. There's a slightly corny character to it: I don't actually put it down to corn, but it has that sweet, vegetable note to it. And yet it's not a true DMS character either. It's still unpleasant, but it's hard to quite work out why.

Taste is bland and slightly grainy. The sweetness here is less pronounced, but there's a floury emptiness in its place, leaving a dry but lingering finish. More slightly corny grain character tickle at the very end. It's near to being flavourless, but stays well away from being actively offensive. That's something in its favour, at least.

Unimpressed, and I still have the 51 to go. Even if it's 50% better than this beer, I don't hold out a great deal of hope.
