This deep mahogany red strong ale is a classic example of a winter warmer that’s high in alcohol and rich in taste. An excellent balance of malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness, gives aromas of Christmas cake with hints of black treacle and vine fruits.

500ml bottle with a note attached explaining why it's not in the typical st peter's oval bottle. these are ok, but not nearly as neat as the regular ones. sampled jan 9/08.
pours deep brown and nearly opaque with a small dense cream coloured head. the head drops slowly and leaves tons of lace.
aroma is good. nice roast. big dark chocolate. coffee and espresso. touch of smoke. light alcohol. big biscuit malt base. light bready character too. light caramel sweetness. great fruity esters.
taste is good. tastes more like an english porter than a more generic "winter warmer". solid roasty character. toasted white bread. big bready malt. touch of caramel sweetness. light caramel sweetness. low bitterness level, more bittersweet chocolate than hops. bit of floral hops. light fruit.
mouthfeel is good. medium-low carbonation level. medium body.
drinkability is good. well balanced. alcohol is hidden very well. i'm going to have to stock up on this one before it leaves the lcbo.

enjoyed while watching this years toy show, took no notes, lovely dark mahogany colour, creamy off white head with great retention, nice black bread caramel toasty malt flavour, treacle and milk chocolate, earthy, sweet, pretty wintery, pretty drinkable, lacking in depth of flavour somewhat though, but still reasonably nice.

Opaque black color. Slightly creamy light brown 1 finger head, lasting around 5 minutes, with decent legs and swirl reaction. Flavors of toffee, dark grains, raisins, walnuts, and herbal hops. Slick creamy medium to full body with light carbonation. Medium strength finish, malty roasted feel with soft leafy hops. Decent freshness, good balance, and well bodied for the style. Warms up pretty well indeed. Overall very good quality craft.

From elcervecero. In Ikea's pint glass. Playing Blackwell Legacy. Complex, with smokey and coffee notes and still very drinkable. Not what I expected in a winter beer but still great. Much better than the St Peter's brews Ive bought in ECI: because the recipe or because the conservation?

Pours cola with lingering tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, dark chocolate and dried fruit. Tastes of coffee, sweet malt, dark fruit and a little spice. Full body with light carbonation. Aftertaste of chocolate and dark berries. Really nice balance overall.
