Appearance - Deep black colour with a rocky beige head that had very low retention becoming a lace cover very quickly and leaving only a tiny ring of lace in the glass at the very end.

Smell - Coffee and chocolate dominate the aroma with some sweet toffee and vanilla. there is also light hops aroma and some earthy wood notes at the end.

Taste - Creamy and sweet with a pretty heavy coffee flavour bitter woody hop at the back end a light yeasty taste in the middle and some mild vanilla toffee sweetness underscoring the whole lot.

Mouthfeel - creamy and full with good drying linger. Lightly carbonated this beer has the mildest tingle that is almost invisible.

Overall - By and large I do like this beer and will buy it again. It started very well and the middle flagged a little before a very pleasing finish. This is an odd way to describe a beer and I have not had many beers that seemed to drink differently as the bottle goes down. It pares well with dried sausage and Gouda cheese.

A: Black with a nice beige head, like the crema on a good espresso. Goes down quickly though.
S: Peppy and very fudgy. Dried fruits.
T: Cor blimey, it's delicious! Like the nose it's Bassett's Refreshers peppy yet the mouthfeel is soothing and creamy. It's fairly sweet and full of coffee. Lots of warming alcohol in the finish. As it warms I get dried fruit and a subtle medicinal flavour. Also some chlorine but that's typical of stout. Even some earthiness in the finish. Bitterness to sweetness level is perfect.
O: I think St Peters make some of the best bottled beer in Britain.

500ml bottle into a pint glass. (Dig the bottle)

Pours not quite jet black/inky, light gets through and shows a nice ruby red on the edges. About a finger of fluffy off white head that dissipates and leaves a thin film.

Get a lot of dark roasty notes on the smell, no real coffee/chocolate notes to speak of. Slight breadiness and maybe a twang of sourness.

Mouth feel is light to medium, good amount of carbonation for a stout, refreshing.

The taste is very reminiscent of Guinness to me, only better. Very roasty, slightly sweet no real hops to speak of. Any bitterness if any is coming from the dark roast. Faint hints of a dark chocolate but not much.

Overall- Not my favorite stout by far, but it's pretty good I wouldn't turn it down. I think there are better stouts for the money but definitely worth trying. Sidenote- I found myself not impressed what so ever when I first poured, got exponentially better as it warmed.
