I had read about the Wirtshaus Wäldches brewpub in a pocket-guide in 1999 as I was preparing to return back to a city I hadn't seen since I spent a summer internship in Frankfurt some ten years before. I never made the relatively short trip out, though, in my several visits then and since.
So in early September, 2003 a nice day and open itinerary presented the opportunity. Fortunately.
This is a place worth the short trip if possible. For both the food and the beer. There is both indoor and outdoor seating.
The unfiltered pilsner beer was VERY tasty, moreso than the dunkel I sampled. For food I shared a meat-platter with a friend and chowed down some homemade sausage (of three varieties: Frankfurter, Nürnberger and Bock-) with dumpling, red-cabbage with apple and some extra mashed potatoes. And the onion soup was killer.
Frankfurt is NOT a noted beer destination as far as regional offerings is concerned, nor should it be (with big-boys swill Binding and Henninger reigning). I tend to frequent the apple wine taverns or cafes/restaurants. But this microbrewery is a place of difference.

This restaurant/beer garden is just a few minutes walk from Niddapark Station (line U1) takes about 20 mins from centre of Frankfurt. Walking down exit steps from Station turn left into the road and you will see the Beer Garden in distance as road turns a left hand corner.
Outside seating on the traditional beer garden benches and tables, seating for about 150 at a guess and more comfortable inside seating in the restaurant. In summer weather the Beer Garden opens at 11.30am.
At time of visit 3 beers on tap where available, an unfiltered Kellerbier which was very good, a Weissbier in Bavarian style also good and a dunkel beer, others may be available depending on the season. Other drinks and low alcohol alternatives.
This is a popular place with locals and passing cyclists, with good reason, the beers are good (better than the Frankfurt Binding and Henniger) and reasonable prices - €3.40 for half litre, and a reasonable food menu - mainly main courses rather than simple snacks. Was good service from the waitress, though only a little English was spoken.
We enjoyed several hours here, and would certainly visit again if in Frankfurt.

A really neat place i stopped at when i spent a few days in frankfurt while i was in the military. Our taxi driver recommended this place when we asked him where we could go to get good food AND good beer. The staff was very helpful. Our regular waitress didnt speak english but was more than happy to get us one that did. They were able to help us find a good meal and the beer they served us was magnificent. the prices are pricey, but most places in europe seem pricey to me. all in all, a very positive experience for me.

Wirtshaus Wäldches is a popular restaurant and brewpub located in northwest Frankfurt, not far from the Niddapark station of the U1 U-bahn line. [Detailed directions: ride the U1 from central Frankfurt to Niddapark. Descend the stairs to the south, the dir. the train was going. At the base, you are on Am Ginnheimer Wäldchen, and above you is Rosa-Luxemburg Str. overpass. You want to turn to the left, east, towards Am Ginnheimer Wäldchen 8, as marked on the street sign. The pub is a 3-5 min. walk along a quiet, wooded street.] When I visited they were serving their light and dark lagers (both tasty), and a special bock (very good, though not as full bodied as some bock beers), and a Berlin-style cherry beer (apparently a dark lager with cherries added after the brewing process), which was a bit sweet, but good in an uncommon sort of way. The food was good, and the food prices were very reasonable (see their web site for a menu). This place is worth the effort to find.

The place has recently changed its name to Ginnheimer Wirtshaus. I was told they have a new head brewer. I could not understand if they have a new owner, but I assume new management. The dunkel was still good. The number of beers offered on tap was perhaps a few lower than before. Food was good. (I had a good goulash in a bread bowl, oven toasted.)
Heard a report that they no longer brew on-premises (hence, no longer a "brewpub"), but I have not confirmed this myself.
