How could I NOT afford to check it out? It's very close to work, and advertises 20 tap beers on their sign. It also helps when you work a certain time and don't want to drive yourself crazy in rush hour traffic and instead would rather watch sports getting krunk during happy hour. I chose the latter.

The outside looks like a semi-dive bar, a type of bar for a younger group of beach kids. Its interior is a little more sophisicated than I expected. Very clean and well mannered. Lots of different TV's showing different sporting events all around. A handful of memorabilia on the walls. At a few places (inside and out on the patio) are self-serve taps. But....

....there are 20 different taps behind the bar, and a full bar of liquor. Hold on liquor though, as this is BeerAdvocate, where we talk beer. Anyway, just a handful of taps are from the big guys, while the rest made of California craft beers. Beers from Bootlegger's, Stone, Cismontane, Ballast Point, Green Flash, North Coast, Hangar 24, Anderson Valley. Just shaker pints for the drafts (even for Pranqster!), but the beers themselves were fresh and not too cold.

Service is fine. A little slower to respond at first at the bar, howver she was good at answering my question regarding the self-serve taps. Another plus is that there is a beer menu with associated prices. All craft offerings go for $6, but during Happy Hour that drops to $4. And half-off appetizers too? Sure, I'll take some onions rings. They're as big as the ones that were served at Stone, and served with a side of chipotle sauce. I definately recommend these rings, and they're a very good value (especially during happy hour!) This makes me optimmistic over what the rest of the food menu is like.

It's beer selection is a little smaller than other recently opened Crow Burger Bar or Commonwealth Lounge, but the Tap Shack is easier to acccess and offers more competitive prices. Keep this place on your radar.
