We're no monks, but our Belgian-style IPA gives a tip of the hat to our divine brethren. Brewed with rich malt, noble hops, Trappist yeast and a kick of coriander, this is one complex beer. Rather than make a beer that's more of a dare to drink than a pleasure, balance was the priority here. We wanted a beer for "hop heads" and novices alike. Hop Trapp pours with a refined bitter backbone, floral hoppy notes and a decidedly Belgian finish. This brew is worthy of some serious contemplation.

On tap at Goodfriend. The beer pours an orange color with a white head. The aroma is full of orange and floral notes, with some biscuit malt and Belgian yeast notes thrown in. The flavor is similar. I get some bitter hop notes, with some perfume and citrus thrown in. There is also some grass and biscuit malt in the flavor. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. (365 characters)

Might be the bar I had it at, but the mouthfeel was rough. Attempts to be hoppy, but there is a poor malt balance. Amber color looks appetizing, but once you smell/taste, this beer leaves something to be desired. (212 characters)

Bottled 6/3/13. Friend brought this back for me from Garland. 12oz. bottle into a Pizza Boy pint.

Pours a 2 finger frothy white head with good retention. Beer is a clear red tea color. Lacing is stringy and web-like with good stick. Pretty good looking beer.

Nose is cane and brown sugar, citrus and pine. Very mellow hops balanced with a moderate malt body. Not very aromatic though.

Opens citrus, pine and Belgian yeast. Cane sugar and some soapiness in the middle with a soft hop bite. Malty with a tree sap hop bitterness at the end. Finishes Belgian yeast with a lingering, bitter, resiny hop aftertaste. Exactly what the style dictates.

Light bodied with ample carbonation. Prickly and carbonated in the mouth and goes down aggressive and foamy. Finishes dry with a lingering, sticky aftertaste. Solid.

A decent beer but nothing that really stands out. The hop presence has faded a bit but this beer's not "old" by most standards. I like it but there are other better offerings out there in the style. (1,015 characters)

nice beer, looks wise it is deceiving, nice hoppy flavor to start but not much of a hoppy finish at all. Pretty normal in terms of mouth feel. Definitely a Belgian style IPA, I would refer to it as Leffe's younger, but bolder cousin which is a high compliment for an underground beer. (284 characters)

Pours a nice orange hue, hazy, lacy. Off white head. Light spicy hop/yeast notes, floral hops, some citrus notes. Slight breadiness as well. Taste has a medium bitterness, orange and citrus, spicy, herbal hops, soft Belgian yeast esters, light sweet maltiness. Medium body, slickness, light oily texture and good carbonation.

I believe that Trappist yeast is definitely different than you standard Belgian ale yeast, and for this reason, I really enjoyed this. Normal Belgian yeast is too much for me usually, but this imparted great character. (545 characters)
