This pours out a amber-orange color, with a dense half-finger's head of foam atop it. The nose is--delightful. Highly fruity esters mix with citrusy, floral hops and a faintly sweet malt underlying it all. The flavor reminds of an old favorite from Texas, long gone: the Celis Dubbel: it's got perfect spicy yeast notes, with plenty of citrusy hops. Bitterness is moderately high, but the hop flavor is just one part of the complex flavor. Lightly fruity to taste, and finishing very dryly, but with a lingering spiciness. I do wish it were a bit more spritzly carbonated. It's just a little watery compared to my favorite Belgians (though it might be because it comes in a standard 12-oz bottle, which can't handle higher carbonation safely).
My favorite from the Lakewood lineup (and my favorite style, the hoppy Belgian). This is very well-crafted and deserves to be their flagship beer.

This is an interesting one to review. BJCP has not identified Belgian IPA as a style so I can't review it against style guidelines. Just reviewing it based on how enjoyable it is in its various facets and based upon its Belgian influence.
Served into a tulip glass. It is a reddish-amber in appearance. Excellent clarity after wiping away the condensation. Off-white head is not too persistent, but a thin head remains after the initial head produced by the pour dissipates. Bubbles visible rising to the top of the glass.
Aroma is what I would expect from a Belgian-influenced beer. Spicy kind of like the aroma of a Belgian Dubbel. I'm also getting citrus fruit aromas. Hops aromas aren't that prevalent which is interesting given the IPA portion of its DNA.
The beer warmed while I was evaluating appearance and aroma. By the time I took my first sip it may have gotten to 45 or 50 degrees. Unlike a normal American IPA the hops weren't too in-your-face though hop bitterness is definitely discernible to the point where I would call it a defining feature. I'm guessing that the citrusy American hop varieties were used in order to create a resonance with the Belgian fruity esters that were produced by whichever Belgian yeast strain they selected. On a clean palate it starts sweet and then progresses to a bitter, dry finish. This seems to influence future sips to where the hops become more of a factor as you go.
Mouthfeel. Tingly carbonation plays with the hops bitterness. Velvety on the tongue--leaves a coating inside of the mouth that stays with you after swallowing for a longish finish.
I would recommend and would buy this again depending on what other selections are available to me.

A great IPA to try if your in the Dallas Texas area.
Typical strong IPA flavor, but with hints of creamy citrus that emerge if you dont swallow right away. Pours a bronze color.
Taste stays with you for a long time. Could still taste it 15 minutes after I finished dinner.
