A: It pours with a slight head and a nice deep copper color.
S: Some citrus and Grain on the front end but not a big fan of the back end interpretation that marks it as a 'belgium' to me
T: Grain, yeast and some hops thrown in to freshen the overall flavor up. Some citrus but not much that my palate could pick-up.
M: This was the sinking point for me with an medium body that really did not sit well with me.
O: While I love the beer that have been coming out of Lakewood recently I was really looking for more of a predominant hop flavor (at 54 ibu I figured it might be there).

Bottled 6/3/13. Friend brought this back for me from Garland. 12oz. bottle into a Pizza Boy pint.

Pours a 2 finger frothy white head with good retention. Beer is a clear red tea color. Lacing is stringy and web-like with good stick. Pretty good looking beer.

Nose is cane and brown sugar, citrus and pine. Very mellow hops balanced with a moderate malt body. Not very aromatic though.

Opens citrus, pine and Belgian yeast. Cane sugar and some soapiness in the middle with a soft hop bite. Malty with a tree sap hop bitterness at the end. Finishes Belgian yeast with a lingering, bitter, resiny hop aftertaste. Exactly what the style dictates.

Light bodied with ample carbonation. Prickly and carbonated in the mouth and goes down aggressive and foamy. Finishes dry with a lingering, sticky aftertaste. Solid.

A decent beer but nothing that really stands out. The hop presence has faded a bit but this beer's not "old" by most standards. I like it but there are other better offerings out there in the style.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a footed tulip.

A: Hazy dark amber hue. Pours a persistent, 1 finger, foamy white head. Settles slowly. Persistent beer ring lacing.

S: Sourdough, yeast, and pine; with hints of bubble gum. Fresh tea leaf.

T: Yeasty, pungent malt. Slight hint of indistinct sweetness. A little woody.

M: Hearty and malty. Pungent and dry in the finish.

D: Sip and enjoy.

Atmosphere is pretty good. Nice head, and persistent lacing. Nose is pungent and yeasty with a synthetic sweetness. Yeast and hearty, with some unusual sweetness. Overall, this is a pretty good quaff.

On tap at Goodfriend. The beer pours an orange color with a white head. The aroma is full of orange and floral notes, with some biscuit malt and Belgian yeast notes thrown in. The flavor is similar. I get some bitter hop notes, with some perfume and citrus thrown in. There is also some grass and biscuit malt in the flavor. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Burnt orange in color, this beer has a clear, well- filtered body and a nose that is earthy, grainy, and yeasty with some fruit in the background. The foam level looks nice and it leaves some lacing.

With the taste, this beer offers up flavors of grainy malts, earthy hops, some citrus, bread, and even a light touch of plum/prune. There is a definite herbal component to the taste that sticks with you with each swallow.

This is a little different from other Belgian IPA I have tried, but it is a good beer any way you look at it with a memorable flavor profile. I have liked what I have tried from Lakewood Brewing thus far and this beer certainly has some good flavor characteristics and is definitely worth trying.

Pours a nice orange hue, hazy, lacy. Off white head. Light spicy hop/yeast notes, floral hops, some citrus notes. Slight breadiness as well. Taste has a medium bitterness, orange and citrus, spicy, herbal hops, soft Belgian yeast esters, light sweet maltiness. Medium body, slickness, light oily texture and good carbonation.

I believe that Trappist yeast is definitely different than you standard Belgian ale yeast, and for this reason, I really enjoyed this. Normal Belgian yeast is too much for me usually, but this imparted great character.

Appearance: Arrives with a nice looking inch of foam on the clear amber liquid; decent retention and lacing

Smell: Spicy and grainy, with an herbal cast to the earthy hops; a hint of treacle underneath

Taste: Quite herbal, at the outset, with a piney/earthy hop character developing by mud-palate; there is a hint of malt in the middle, but the finish is about the yeasty phenols mixing with the hops

Mouthfeel: Medium body with spritzy carbonation

Overall: A very different take on the style, with a distinct herbal character that dominates; line the way the mouthfeel enhances the flavor, as well
