Named for White Rock Lake and the cyclists who loop it, Rock Ryder is a refreshing, crowd-pleasing, session beer. But just because it's easy drinking doesn't mean it's got training wheels. With peppery notes from rye malt, a citrusy aroma and dry finish, our American Rye Wheat pulls ahead of the pack. And we're proud to donate a portion of the proceeds of Rock Ryder to For The Love of the Lake, a community organization that volunteers their time keeping our little oasis in the city sparkling. So sit back and enjoy the Ryde.

Brief impressions:

Not as spicy as you'd expect a rye beer to be, with a pleasant wheat foundation and some vague citrus from the hops. Not as crackly or peppery as would be ideal. Clean drinking, with crisp carbonation, a balanced albeit simple flavour profile, and decent depth of flavour.

A drinkable enjoyable brew from Lakewood, but not unique or special. I'll enjoy finishing the 6 pack I bought while watching American football, but it's not a world class beer by any means - just a nice local with some good characteristics.

Wheat, Rye. Peppery, Dry

Cloudy golden with a rocky white head. Peppery and husky nose. Firm, medium-bodied. Faint citrus and pith. Flavors fall soft on the palate with a touch of sweetness, bready, wheaty, and spicy rye flavors, followed by some earthy and nutty notes. Finishes dry with a peppery linger. American Wheat beers often suffer from being boring, however, the addition of rye spices things up here and the dryness makes for one crushable beer.

Got this on sale at Walgreens for $4.49 a six pack. Tried one and went back for more. Nice hop taste similar to Texas Pils. Good session beer, a bit milder than Texas Pils nice lighter finish. Goes good with food. A great bargain!

Pours a pale gold with a large frothy head. The aroma is very faint, with a few notes of floral hops and some grainy malt. Much more flavorful to taste, with a goodly lightly caramel malt up front, sweet, and moderate bitterness. I don't detect a lot of rye in this beer, but the malt does have a crackery component that might be the rye. Yeast character is pretty neutral.

Not too bad, but this doesn't really stand out in any way.

Yellowish in color and with a head of foam that doesn’t quit, Rock Ryder impresses out of the gate. The nose on this beer is one of rye, wheat, cereal, and some citrus. The lovely head of foam coats your glass all the way to the final sip.

Lakewood Rock Ryder has an agreeable flavor profile that meshes together rye, wheat, and barley malt with some underlying fruit. There is a biscuit- like goodness to the taste and a lemony character that adds refreshment. There isn’t any harsh edge like with some rye beers. This one is quite sessionable and would make a good beer on a warm summer day.

Rye isn’t a flavor compatible to every palate, but I find it good in my beer if done right. Lakewood Brewing company seems to have the right balance with this beer. The malts, the fruit, and other flavors seem to match up quite nicely. The rye isn’t overdone and the sweet and bitter components seem balanced. I recommend it for fans of rye beer and others who want a more drinkable session beer.

12 oz bottle courtesy of fthomasl pours a hazed gold color with an impressively stiff white head. Sheet lacing is nice too.

Nose is tangerine flesh, tangy wheat and limeade...interesting melange of citrusy and sweet aromas.

Taste shows lots of pithy citrus and hearty grains...wheat and rye both make sense. The beer is thick and creamy with just enough sweetness to offset the lemon peel-esque bitterness. It's almost there....just a little tweak here or there to keep the flow together would make this a very good beer. Maybe tone down the pith and give it more fleshy fruit and a bit more yeast presence.

On tap at Goodfriend. The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma has a good bit of biscuit malt, as well as some rye and caraway. The flavor is more of the same. The rye is quite strong, as is some lighter orange citrus and lemon notes. I also get some yeast and biscuit malt notes in the flavor. Thin to medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
