Lakewood is more than a place. It's a state of mind. Old blends with new. Traditions hook up with fresh ideas. It's the same with our Lakewood Lager. We've taken old world Vienna-Style lager and reintroduced it to beer lovers. Subtle caramel aromas, a coppery pour and a light malty sweetness paired with noble hop bitterness set this beer apart. In with the old, in with the new.

Tap at Jack Mac's.

The beer pours an orange-copper color with a white head. The aroma is very malty with some biscuit and bread notes, as well as some toffee and a bit of sugar. The flavor is also very malty. There is good toffee and caramel in the flavor, as well as some sweet biscuit malt. There is also a hint of grass. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. (367 characters)

Poured into a pint as a cloudy deep amber, with a thin finger of creamy head. Smells light and toasted. Tastes toasted and light. Caramel. Malts. Fairly smooth, but lacking distinct flavor and any memorable characteristics. Mineral. Ends a bit dry. (248 characters)

12 oz bottle courtesy of fthomasl pours a crystal clear copper color with a stiff, off-white head. Nice retention and some decent lacing. Honestly, you really cant ask for more on the appearance with the brilliant clarity and dense foam.

Nose has some sulfurous lager yeast, burnt toast and toffee. Im not really getting any hops in here. Smells ok, but I am not a huge fan of overly toasty brews.

Taste has alot of the toast but it is balanced by a sweet doughy caramel. Hops are still pretty non-existent but there is a light drying bitterness on the finish, a little leafy even. Its a fairly good lager, one I would be happy to order on tap at a restaurant, but it really doesnt do a whole lot to distinguish itself from the pack of vienna lagers. If I had the choice Id rather grab a Penn pilsner, Firebrick or Elliot Ness. (829 characters)

12 oz bottle, pils glass

A – Caramel color, medium to dark amber, and mostly clear, with a little bit of chill haze. Half inch of thin, off-white foam stand, with moderate retention.

S – Bread crust, lightly toasted, with just a touch of honeyish or caramel sweetness. Fairly crisp, clean.

T – Light bread crust, with some toasty, graham-like notes. Very low honey-like flavor, again very clean. Some light floral hops, a hint of herbal woodiness.

M – Well carbonated, moderate-high, with a medium body. Fairly juicy, just a bit of dryness on the finish. Mildly sweet and mildly bitter, very well balanced, with a bit of a snap at the end.

O – This is a very good example of a Vienna lager, very well made and traditional. Love that it is not overly sweet, very well balanced. (816 characters)
