A full bodied black I.P.A. brewed with pale and mild roasted malts and a citrus hop blend. A well balanced roasty-sweet backbone and a smooth finish with a floral, citric hoppiness.

Black opaque appearance with a robust beige foamy head. Dates, fig, coffee, chocolate, malt notes. Medium body, moderate carbonation, rich creamy mouthfeel.

12 oz to a Guinness stout glass.
Looks like a porter.. dark, with a tan head that holds up. Smells of lightly roasted malts, with a fresh hops aroma. Not heavy on either side. Taste is surprisingly crisp and well rounded. The malt and mild hop flavor is pretty steady from 1st pour, through temp warmup. MF is crisp, not heavy.. and a lot smoother than most hoppy beers I've tried (albeit I'm still tip-toeing through them).
While I'm still in my infant years of beer growth.. this is my 3rd time drinking more than 3 Fin City BIPA's at a clip. Each time, its right on character. Nothing changes as far as going south on me, or catching me off-guard. While I know I'm not a 'hop-beer' expert, this is right up my alley at this point and time.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine #88 (May 2014):
Toasty, Roasty, Citrus, Bitter
Fin City hits all of the right spots for the American Black Ale style. The perfect level of roastiness is a great marriage to the herbal citrus hoppiness and bitterness that reaches 58 IBUs. Nothing massive so it is pretty damn easy to knock back and at least it is what was expected.

Great example of the style - one of my favorites! Not a hoppy porter or a regular IPA that looks black... It's an IPA with delicious roastiness on the back end. I have only seen this beer at a random sketchy convenience store here in Frederick that sells macros plus this and two other Fin City beers; a little strange!
