The look and feel were fine, but the smell wasn't anything special. The taste was my least favorite thing. It wasn't very hoppy and the fruity/citrusy elements of the beer just didn't taste good. Just really wasn't digging this beer at all. Other people seem to like it, but it just isn't for me. (301 characters)

Not a great IPA but not bad either. A little too hoppy for my tastes but still drinkable. (89 characters)

O: I think this is a winner it's very nicely balanced with some deep earthiness and a kickass malt backbone well done all around, and one if my favorites comes in Cans love it! (486 characters)

Fat Bottom Brewing "Knockout IPA"
$8.99/Imperial pint @ Gibson Cafe, Nashville Int'l Airport, TN - 8 April 2015

Appearance: Very hazy deep copper body beneath a frothy white head that drops steadily but still displays OK retention and even better initial lacing.

Aroma: Limited aroma, especially for an IPA. Hops are present but not necessarily distinguishable over the gently caramelish malt.

Flavor: The flavor is fuller, but in many ways still limited. The malt component is caramelish, but not bright, and it's slightly toasty... almost like the malt you'd find in a brown ale. Grassy and floral hops liken it, and it's solidly bitter, bringing home a dry, grassy and floral finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and crisp.

Overall: More of an English than American IPA in many ways, and yet not actually a proper English IPA... a hybrid, shall we say? An easy pint to just relax with as it doesn't ask too much or challenge you. Worth trying. (947 characters)

Local brew for me. My favorite part is the huge chunks of hop particles. (72 characters)

L: Copper, Brown. About 2 fingers of head with some retention and some nice spidery lacing.

S: A bit of caramel and hops. Grassy hops.

T: Strong hop presense. Floral and grassy. Real nice. Some caramel to not quite balance it out, but that's a good thing in this beer.

F: Moderately carbonated, goes down smooth.

O: This is a solid IPA which I'm glad a picked up a couple 4 packs before I headed home. (419 characters)

Poured from a tallboy can into a shaker pint, the beer is a hazy, caramel copper coloring, with a tall, clingy, foamy, off-white head. Aromas of rich caramel and toffee, with peppery and grassy notes, and subtle tropical fruit highlights. Flavors are subtle, with a tropical fruit blend of pineapple, mango, and melon forward, followed by subtle caramel sweetness, and a dry hops bitterness. Full bodied, but smooth and light, with a caramel and citrus aftertaste. The finish is smooth, dry, and slightly effervesced. Big, but drinkable. (537 characters)

From a can, pours a hazy gold color with a fizzy white head.

The nose is cardboard and soap, a little citrus, resin, touch of fruit and perfume. The flavor is more pronounced, nice bitter citrus rinds, mild fruit, tasty finish.

This is middle of the road, good, average, drinkable. (284 characters)

Look: Pale orange and very hazy with LOTS of hop bits floating around. Reminded me of a snow globe, but infinitely better because it's beer. The more I looked at it the better I liked it, but my wife was not impressed.

Aroma: With the haze and the hops, I was expecting big things. There was disappointingly little aroma, with some floral and grassy notes and mild toasted malt.

Taste: Slightly sweet with some caramel. Initially floral and grassy hops with a touch of citrus, but not much. Also picked up a little dank. Finished VERY bitter and clean. The balance seemed off, with a malty start and a bitter finish.

Feel: Medium carbonation that seemed appropriate. Medium bodied more like an English-style.

Overall: I like this brewery but they have some room for improvement. A hazy IPA with visible hop bits should deliver big aroma and taste, and this does neither, especially with the malt presence. Not a total loss, as I do find the snow globe effect entertaining. (976 characters)
