'Session' version of Riverside's 44 Amber, brewed for the Local Taphouse's "Rock the Cask Bar" event, as far as I know, although it seemed to have made its way to some other venues as well.
Pours a dark burnished orange, slight haze. Head is off-white, small bubbles. Looks casky; not bad.
Smells hoppy and pleasant. New world character, with passion and touch of lemon zest. Pleasant, but subdued, especially when compared to normal 44.
Taste is hoppy, but weird. Notes of lemon and some mild passionfruit, then finish is all mediciney with notes of mint and cherry. Very phenolic, almost bandaid character. Structure is decent, but the vibe disappoints me.
Decent feel; body is not there but goes down nicely.
Casking suits this pretty well, but the session beer vibe itself doesn't do much for me. Would happily just stick with regular 44 if given the choice.
