Look: Pours like black coffee, with little head. Slight ring retention, with nice glass lacing.
Smell: Sweet roasty malts with some chocolate. Slight pecan-like smell, with a tad of coffee.
Taste: Nutty/roasty malt flavor, with some chocolate. Some coffee on the finish, but minimal. Pretty linear tasting, but not necessarily bad.
Feel: Light in body and weight. Carbonation higher than I prefer for the style.
Overall: An easy drinking oatmeal stout, for the most part but the flavor and especially the feel have me desiring more.

This deep beer pours into the glass with little head and has a weak smell of dark chocolate. It tastes much stronger, with the deep cacao notes biting through the light coffee beans that hit the edge of the tongue. Though lighter and less viscous than most stouts, this is also as full-bodied as anything you will find.

Dark clear brown with some wisps of foam swirling in the Kasteel chalice. Smooth with the silky oatmeal mouthfeel. Darkly roasted but not charred. More mellow and malty than some of the black stouts. Aroma is grainy. Some bitterness in the aftertaste.
Rather winey and reminds me of an Export Stout. The alcohol becomes evident as you sip, adding another intensity of flavor. This is quite a pleasant venture on the dark side. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at the Co-op market in Mount Vernon, Wash.
