Talk about a let down. Perhaps the worst Mountain Sun beer I've had...and it really isn't that bad. The nitro kills it. Bad idea for a Belgian

Anywho, it looks nice. Glossy black pour with a nice, rich white head.

Aroma is a bit weak. Faint chocolate and roasted malt. Nothing else. Foreshadow of things to come.

The taste has the chocolate, dark and a tad bitter. Nothing else comes out and the nitro kills the chocolate characteristics. It's not rich, not bitter any more. It dies a bad death. It's like drinking watered down old chocolate...with water added. No more nitro, please

On-tap at Mountain Sun's Vine Street Pub in Denver for Stout Month 2011. The beer was served in an 8oz milkshake pilsner glass.

A - Very dark black with black edges and a nice 1 finger creamy chocolate milk nitro head. Decent retention with unreal lacing!

S - A pleasant mix of Belgian chocolate with mild roasted malt character. A little sweet on the nose.

T- The beer starts with a nice roasted chocolate malt flavor and quickly brings the sweet Belgian chocolate flavor to the palette. The beer finishes with an almost brownie-like flavor of sweet chocolate with a hint of roast. Very well balanced.

M- The beer is super creamy, which is attributed to the nitro pour. Good amount of carbonation.

D - Very drinkable beer.

Overall, this is one of the better Stouts I've had that Mountain Sun brews. I would have gladly had another.

Note: This review was a re-post from my former account, jmkratt, which was hacked and I lost all my reviews...sorry for the redundancy.

Had this one on tap the other night at the Vine Street Pub in Denver, as part of the stout month celebration. Served on nitro, poured an opaque black color, with a creamy tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, vanilla, caramel and roasted malt. Creamy and medium bodied, with flavors of roasted malt, chocolate and caramel.

On tap at Vine Street Pub during Stout Month. Dark black as all stouts are. Smells like chocolate a bit but mostly just a good stout aroma to this beer. The taste was much the same with a sweetness and a chocolate flavor, quite easy to drink and something I would definitely order again if I were in the mood for a stout.

On-tap at Mountain Sun's Vine Street Pub in Denver.

A: Obsidian black with a creamy whipped chocolate top. Head retention is only marginal, but continuous rings of lace are left behind.

S: Very chocolaty and sweet in the nose, with bits of espresso. Not particularly complex, but pretty pleasant.

T: It's a nice sweet stout overall, with a generous dark chocolate flavor out front and a mild burnt bitterness that balances but doesn't get in the way of the sweetness. Finishes with a lingering baking chocolate flavor.

M: The joy of nitro strikes again. Super creamy medium body has just the right amount of fine carbonation.

D: A nice stout overall. Not quite up there with my favorite Mountain Sun stout Korova, but very drinkable. Well worth a revisit the next time I'm in.

Dark black color contrasts well with a tan head. Very nice brussles lace. Wheat malts, English hops and lots of chocolate. This stuff is very tasty. Lots of sweet malts and cocao kept in balance by some quite hops. Light body and adry finish. A very drinkable chocolate stout that is very close to Young's Double.
