32oz growler from the brewery .
Big fluffy tan head, impressive lacing on the glass. Black and opaque.
Charred grain, faint molasses, kiss of vanilla, black currants, woody, and earthy undertones make for a pretty complex nose.
Incredibly smooth, some creaminess from the nearly fullish body. Big roasty character with layers of burnt sugar, charred wood, espresso, and unsweetened chocolate. Balanced hopping, twang of currants, faint woodiness and a touch of warmth show the depth. Semi-sweet with a long drawn out roasted finish.
Reminiscent of a sweet stout nearly, a whole lot of depth within the roasted character with a good balance all around. The subtle addition of oak chips simply adds to the complexity. Very enjoyable.

Draft poured into a sample glass. Nice half-finger head for a small glass, minimal lacing, very dark brown color. Aroma is muted, dark roasted malt, mild caramel, a bit of coffee. Flavor is disappointing, half sour, half bitter, not sweet, has dark roasted malt and coffee notes. Mouthfeel is quite good, medium feel with moderate carbonation. Over this is an OK to good stout, I'm glad I tried it, but I won't sample it again.
