This is a comfortable bar and a restaurant with a large selection of 40 taps. The selection is pretty wide-ranging and features a nice mix of styles, but is a bit thin in top tier breweries. With that many options, I would expect to find more choices that I'm excited to try.

I did enjoy my two selections of Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier in a proper 0.5L glass and Springdale Pearly Wit.

They have an interesting cocktail list, but it doesn't look very professional. My wife got what should have been listed as a Sangria, but instead had a silly name. Neither of us realized until after we tasted it that it was going to be a Sangria variation.

Food is decent, but again the descriptions might not prepare you for what you are actually getting. We shared an order of "paella" that did not come with any rice but was instead a seafood stew.

Overall, it's a comfortable bar with some decent selections, but they could use work in all areas of their menus (except the whiskey list).

Easily one of the best bars I've been too! There beers are equally as good as they're cocktails....and they have some incredible cocktails!

Foods always good, and they have so many great beers on draft (all for 6$). They had a 16oz pour of Mad Elf for 5$... WOW! places in the area charge 8-10 for the same beer 12oz.

I wish they would bring in some more unique brews, but still an awesome spot!

All the bartenders are great, but if you get the shot ask for nick....he is a cocktail wizard!!

Hops N Scotch has settled in nicely as a solid bar for craft beer in Brookline's Coolidge Corner neighborhood that's only likely to get better with time.

The bar is huge and inviting, with plenty of seating and space nearby. The restaurant area is spread across two floors. Dark wood and vintage lighting are prominent throughout. The music choice is usually inviting--I've heard some great Chicago blues on several occasions.

The tap selection has some quality beers--notably Ithaca Flower Power, Jack's Abby Hoponius Union, and until recently, Lagunitas Sucks and Founders Breakfast Stout (which I hope will be back soon), along with a good selection of local brews. The bottle selection is pretty good too, with a nice selection of Belgian-style ales, but a little light on IPAs and stouts. The selection could use some expanding. If you're into scotch and bourbon, however, this is definitely a prime destination. They have a fantastic selection.

Hops N Scotch doesn't have Publick House's or Lord Hobo's penchant for consistently tapping innovative, exciting beers yet (nor do they offer any cask beer), but I'm optimistic that this is starting to change. One of HnS's relatively new hires, Nick, is the real deal when it comes to beer knowledge and enthusiasm. It's great to see this genuine passion for beer from someone on the bar staff. Nick has talked about wanting an expanded role in beer selection, and if HnS is smart they'll give him wide reign. He's had me try off-menu Belgians packed with flavor, and gets downright giddy when talking about his favorite IPAs and sours. The rest of the bar staff is solid, if not as knowledgeable on beer.

The food is pretty good, but can be hit or miss. One thing it's not is overpriced. Expect some serviceable southern pub grub, and don't leave without having the Southern Scotch Eggs--they're fantastic.

In all, HnS is a good bar for craft beer, but it has the potential to be outstanding. I'm hopeful that it's on its way.
